Greeves
« on: July 27, 2010, 04:23:11 PM »
I ran into a guy with a Greeves for sale, not sure what model, he thinks it was made around the 40's I'm thinking they started in 58. He is a bit of a dipstick, hopefully I can get a look at least.  Anybody got info on what to look for aside from the normal bike stuff?

I know a guy has a Griefs...as he calls it..

60s enduro.. fliptop gas cap on glass tank I think, maybe Ceriani forks, unit construction motor..

all I can say about it...

I may be wrong on the fork..it may have been a leading link?... like Hercules I once had... they all run together in a blur somedays..... I am thinking, I have probably seen over 100 brands of bikes..

Made from 1960 to 75, Desert or motocross racers mostly. I remember them practically trying to give them away in the back ad's of cycle magazines of the day. However my "2010 comprehensive vintage motorcycle price guide" has even a parts bike condition listing valued at 750.00 to 2100.00 US! A perfect 380 motocross is valued at 10 thou. I find the book a little optimistic, but for reference they have a perfect 69 sandcast valued at 25 thou. Hope that helps.

Greeves were a very competetive dirt bike in thier day and some can be found with Triumph 500cc engines in them converted to road racers. As far as I remember the original engine was a big old two storke and the frame was solid alluminum. I would imagine quite collectable now.
