750 F2 clatter Question
« on: August 12, 2010, 11:34:10 PM »
Hello all, For reasons of avalibility I have a CB750F2 when I got it it was pretty much a basket case except for the motor. After a couple of years I have got it pretty much all together using parts that were aval ( Im not a purest ) I have 2 bikes, this one that im using as my "cruser" bike and a old school springer hardtail chopper CB750 I am building. I have changed the sprockets from 14/43 to 15/41 and change the aftermarket 4 in1 exhaust to a 4 into 2side cut.
I Love the low sound and not as loud. However I realy dont notice much power differance and she runs at freeway speeds and  MPG I avrage between 47 to 50.
However sence I changed the exhause I hear a lot of clatter from the engine. Is this normal ? valves and cam chain are adjusted properly. my honda friend said that this was normal and the 4 into 1 was masking the sounds,I owned a Triumph Bony 750 in the past and it had much less clatter it seemed. Is this realy normal to hear all these sound coming from the engine despite it running Great?

Thanks, Jav

Yes, they do make a bit of a racket.  Mine does quiet down after it warms up.  It unnerved me at first as I was used to my XS650 which has a much quieter top end.  You may notice that it is better with the clutch lever pulled in and that is also normal.  A carb sync will also keep the noise level down.  47-50 is damn good mileage for a 750, your not running it lean are you?  40-45 seems to be normal.

The F2/F3 black Cb750 motors do have a reputation for early valve guide wear.  I expect clattering would go along with that.

No plugs are perfect dark tan, Motor runs great, and has plenty of pull. The F2 motor makes a great cruiser , No offence to the"sport Guys".
