I would not want to ride a bike in that State after that story. I know that evry law on the books will be enforced to the max on bikes in genral. Cops take care of their own.

Agreed, THAT DOES make motorcyclists look bad, not to mention the inhumane attitude and behavior that they showed. Don't know how bad the trooper was hurt, but that doesn't matter. Those people are true LOW LIFE and I hope they catch them. Ya can't blame people for being skeptical about those on motorcycles, with scum like that around. :(

"SEATTLE – The Washington State Patrol says it has identified several persons of interest in the case of a trooper who was allegedly taunted by motorcycle riders after his patrol car rolled over during a pursuit.

WSP says Trooper Brian Salyer, 46, was chasing a group of motorcycle riders doing over 100 mph on Interstate 5 in Tukwila Tuesday when he lost control and rolled his vehicle at least five times. The state patrol says at least two of the motorcyclists stopped and started pointing at the wreckage and clapping.

Salyer suffered a concussion, cuts, bumps and bruises.

Trooper Cliff Pratt says investigators are looking at looking at more than one area motorcycle group in relation to the case.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Washington State Patrol"

I'd just like to point out that this officer's story is completely uncorroborated.

The truth will come out, I am willing to give the cop the benefit of the doubt at this time until I hear otherwise.

I think dash cams are generally set to turn on when the emergency lights are activated, so that could possibly back up some accounts of the officer not having his lights on when pursuing them.  Of course it's all just guessing.

"Two of the bikes crossed over and intentionally cut the trooper off and slammed on their brakes,"

Slamming on your brakes in front of a car could have self-life-terminating consequences and makes little sense.

Yeah that didn't make sense to me either. Gutsy move if true and the trooper saved their lives.

I was talking to a fellow motorcyclist yesterday at the park while our kids played and he is a member of PNWR forum and he claims that there was a bunch of motorcycles there at the scene and the the ones who caused it pulled over to see if the trooper was ok and the trooper started yelling ,swearing and threatining them so they saw he was ok and took off.doesnt mean they were right at all.these were supposed witnesses. There are two sides to the story, the bunch of squids in the front were doing wheelies and stunting and the two at the back who were just riding were the ones who got caught up in the chase, the others took off.I think squids in general give motorcycling a bad name.but that just my opinion.sport bikes are good for the track and thats about it.

"There were 70 to 100 motorcyclists in the group, according to State Patrol estimates"

"But, he said, it's not inconceivable Salyer might have tried to use an approved technique called a "rolling slowdown" to deter speeding."

"The trooper then pulled his patrol car in front of the group of riders and attempted to act as a speed barrier by preventing them from passing him, said the man, who refused to give his name. He said the trooper had activated his yellow lights. When motorcyclists tried to pass the officer, the officer changed lanes to block them, the rider said."

"He said three motorcyclists eventually "gunned it" and pulled around Salyer. The trooper then began to pursue them at a high rate of speed. Salyer crashed a short time later."

What. The. #$%*. Expressed at all involved.

Per the 2nd article seems there is more than one side to this story.

I have personally seen Vermont police 'drag racing' locally and then
come into a coffee shop and brag about doing 122mph.

Here in Vermont a State Cop was caught speeding this summer, 113mph I believe (or more)
on the interstate, just because he thought he could. He got a ticket, but is still
on the road as a trusted member of the VSP.

Maybe the cops should worry about felons and leave the bikers alone.

I know a few good cops in the Vermont State Police,
but there are some real head cases too.
Just like any company, I guess, some have more common sense then others.

The old malfunctioning dash cam trick.  What a surprise.

Currently reported as no dashcam.

"In addition, Salyer's car was not equipped with a dashboard camera, he said. Pratt said not every patrol car is equipped with a camera because of the $300 to $500 cost."

And this made me laugh a bit
"According to Pratt, all of the motorcyclists in Tuesday's incident appeared to be riding Japanese sports bikes, which are also known as "crotch rockets" or "cafe-style motorcycles."

In contrast, according to Martin, riders of Harley-Davidson motorcycles generally cause fewer concerns for law enforcement on the roads. "Typically, our Harleys don't cause any trouble. They're riding around trying to be safe," Martin said."

I smell pork roast.  I want the truth on this one.  It is a bit of a sensational story which makes me conscious of the fact that it is not past the realm of possibility for a 22 year old officer to fabricate a story about a roving band of bikers that tried to kill him.  I'm not going to vote on this yet.
"Sure, if you don't want that bike in your backyard, I guess I'll take it."  "I'll probably just scrap it......"
