oil plug behind alternator cover
« on: March 16, 2011, 04:48:42 PM »
ive been having a problem with my oil plug behind the alternator cover. everytime i kick the bike over it pushes out. ive replaced the o-ring. its like pressure builds up in the crankcase and just pushes it out. anybody seen this or had the same problem. the bike is a 71 cb500

Huh ?
It plugs the oil gallery.  Should have 40PSI or above when the engine spins.

Does it come out when the alternator cover is installed?

There should be a "pin" as part of the plug to locate it against the cover and keep it from pushing out. Has this been damaged, or is the plug in backwards? The outer edge of the oil gallery can be very sharp & damage o-rings when re-installing.
