Listen to my engine!
« on: August 15, 2010, 04:42:00 PM »
I believe the top-end of this engine is exceptionally loud. Would anyone care to listen to it and tell me your thoughts?

Thanks in advance,
Nooch

Thanks for the input so far. The cam chain tensioner bolt has been stuck for quite a while, so I was assuming that the noise was originating from a loose cam chain. How does one go about quieting rocker arms? How can you tell the timing is off? My untrained ear can't hear it...

Tappets would be a quick thing to check, but I'm planning to pull the motor out of this bike to open up the head anyway. Still, thanks for the advice.

The whole bike is going to be noisier when all the cylinders don't fire evenly.

Your bike is NOT running evenly on all cylinders.  I'd almost bet money that it has not had a full tuneup in the last 3000 miles.

Get all the cylinders firing evenly (I'd start with a compression check), do the whole tune up check list, and then worry about cam chain noise if it remains.
