ST 1100 good bike?
« on: August 15, 2010, 07:02:00 PM »
I saw an ST1100 at a local bike shop. I don't know much about them but I keep thinking about it. V4 water cooled I assume, what's up with them?

Excellent bikes.  My friend has one and loves it.  Honda V-4's are one of "those" engines.  Smooth and bullet proof.  I've been looking at BMW's but I might have to look at one of those now that I think of it.  Of course the Kawasaki Concourse has been sport tourer of the year for 10 years or something ridiculous like that.  They are nice bikes.

Don, I have the ST1300ABS - it's younger brother. I have never heard anyone knock the 1100. Two of my closest friends had them and say they were amoung the best bikes they have ever owned. They have the most range of any motorcycle you can buy between fuelings. They are watercooled, shaft driven, and very capable. I'll ride mine until I get old, then I'll get an old man's wing.

A good friend of mine had about 110,000 on his ST1100 when he had the swing arm or part of the frame rust out. I found this you tube video of the swing arm "problem". I will also add he rode it in the winter when he could so maybe the salt got it!

I also found this:

Oh yeah, he had 114,000 before the swingarm problem. I think it is a 1992 model.
