Hi hi, Well first off wanted to say hi new to the forum. Have been lurking but not touching. Lot of great information here. Well i had been bit by the bug many many many years ago and just sold all my toys because i was going back to school and needed money to make things work. So bye bye ninja 636...good by superjet....goodbye many other things. So now i am sad and started looking around for a project to have when ever i have a tiny bit of free time between lots of school and lots of work so probably not much progress over the next year or so. But anyways i wanted a little input. I found locally a 77 cb750 that  i am thinkings about bidding on if the price stays low enough. i went by and looked at it today and was surprised it looked a bit better then the pictures.Still rough rough rough. The thing that i wanted to ask is what is the valued price of a non running 77 cb750 in rough shape? Motor turned over but the electrics looked like a nightmare as well did the tank and the headlight. Also where the po had wrecked there where 2-3 fins on the right side that had some chunks taken out. Is that fixeable? Sorry i am a noob and just wondering. Thanks for input.

Really depends on area etc...

My best guess would be $200-400 or so? but can vary widely depending on where you are and what other damage. I have seen fins repaired but I would say that it is low priority all things considered. A couple of things to verify since you know it has been down. First of all, are the forks straight and true, any cracks in the frame etc etc.

Lots of us have had free bikes that have ended up costing alot more in the long run!

Also, keep in mind what your end goal is...for example if you are looking to heavily modify then you would like fix/customize/paint the tank regardless. Also, the head light could likely be swapped out easily enough.

Well, think about it this way--how ever much you pay for a bike in that condition will be pretty insignificant compared to the cost of getting it going (depending, of course, on a number of factors).  So you want to pay as little as possible.  If the bidding goes over $300-400, which it might just do, I'd walk away.  You don't know what is up with the motor at all, and will probably be replacing a lot of rusty and non-functioning parts.  For starters, Tires, brakes, carb kits, a battery, chain and sprockets, and fork seals will be in the several hundred dollar range.  And that's before you even know if the engine is solid or if it needs top/bottom end work.

If you wait and watch carefully every day, your can pick up an already running bike on Craigslist for under $1000 usually.  Just my two cents!

for the most part i agree with what my78k said.
in my area, 300-500 is reasonable, for a non-runner WITH a title.
having a title will save you time, money, and headaches.
you'll probably spend 3-4x that getting it roadworthy.
most of the work can and should be done by you, along with the guidance and tips from all here.

i would prefer to spend a little more($1000+) for a good, running bike, like jessezm said, and maintain it/work to make it into what you desire.

I would spend a little more ($1000?) for a good, running bike, and work on it to make it into what you'd like.

Good Luck.
