Peckett & McKnab SOHC race bikes
« on: August 18, 2010, 02:24:43 am »
Can anyone help? My CR750 rep. engine is progressing well - too well, in fact! I have a really good guy (Len Cooper) putting it all together and we are confident that we will have a pretty quick 750cc engine. I had always intended to put the engine in my CR750 frame and race/parade in CRMC events but now I have a change of heart. I spoke to Richard Peckett recently and he said he would build me a P&M fame - the same as raced by the late Tom Herron and Phil Read in Mocheck colours. I am sure this would be a "better" bike but my question is: where can it be raced? Which class? Which club? I want to keep it a 750 even though the Mocheck bikes were nearer 1000cc - is this a sensible decision?  If I build it I don't want to just parade it as I have spent far too much on the engine. I have another F2 engine to put in the CR750 rep. so that is no problem - it won't go to waste! Your thoughts/advice would be much appreciated. You can see Tom Herron's bike here and this is the one I would replicate -http://www.flickr.com/photos/chris531/2993283116/

Hi Phil

I thought this photo of my Peckett & McNab CB750 SOHC would interest you. A racer of the same era converted for road use.

Best regards

Sam, with such a name would expect the series to cater for production style stuff and indeed:

MACHINE ELIGIBILITY

Any "production" twin shock air cooled machine of a type which was readily available in the U.K. Limited editions produced by importers or accessory companies, e.g. Dunstalls etc, are not classed as production machines. Any variations from the standard spec of the machine must remain within the extent of modifications allowed in a particular class. Production machine means any machine suitable for road use in the UK as supplied by either manufacturer or importer. It does not extend to specialist frame manufacturers such as P & M, Bimota etc, who used brought in engines in their own frames.

c'mon, you need to try harder!

Hi Andy, I've just looked back at some of your posts (it didn't take me long, haha) and you've been a member for some time, digging the odd old post up. Why don't you stick around some and post some pics of your bike and race reports, we have quite a few members that would like to see them, I'm sure.

Sam,

My apologies sam,  I occasionally pop in to the forum and see whats happening,  I have been a classic racing fan for years, and my CR has been one of my favourite bikes from my collection, have owned it for 15 years or so and been all round europe with it etc, I have developed my own parts over time and finally with a good rider on it, It won 750 and 1300 uk championships. so box ticked i suppose.

I should put some stuff up, for those interested, so I will trawl through my stuff and put something together,   but I must admit I do tend to get distracted so might take a while.
