Electric start - where does this plug in?
« on: August 14, 2010, 01:56:08 PM »
So, long story short, I took my carbs off, cleaned them, put them back on. This involved moving the air filter/box and things. When I tried to start the bike again, the electric start worked, but my carb bowls apparently were too loose and gas was leaking everywhere, so I shut the bike off, screwed everything in properly, and tried again. At first the rear signals didn't work and the electric start just made a whirring noise. I let everything dry off and tried again the next day, and all of my electrics now work EXCEPT that the electric start only whirs. Kick start works fine.

When I took the air box out again, I noticed that this little guy wasn't plugged in anywhere, and I probably had knocked it out when I put the box in the first time. However, I can't figure out where he goes.... wiring diagrams just made my brain explode

Just checked my bone-stock CB400F....similar situation.  It is an "extra" ground wire, which doesn't plug into anything.

If the starter motor is spinning but not engaging the engine then that's a problem with the starter clutch and has nothing to do with the carb work you just did.

With respect bnc, your wiring looks filthy and I am sure all the connections need to be cleaned for reliability I'd do it now throughout the bike ( inc. under the tank and headlight shell ).  It's a lot easier than trying to do it sometime soon on the side of the road...... ;)
If your sure it's a carb problem; it's ignition,
If your sure it's an ignition problem; it's carbs....

I'll definitely get on that. The whole bike needs work, so it's what and when! Suggestions are always welcome, for sure.

also, electric start is fine. Battery was low, though I had previously had it charging. I guess it was just low enough....
