Time for new exhaust on K0
« on: May 30, 2018, 05:02:58 AM »
Morning,
I haven't posted in a while, I built this 1969 back in 2012 and we rode it since.  For the last couple years it was stored as I was out of country.
I have tried the café bars but that was too low, now I'm installing the Norman Hyde handlebars.
Other than that and the ''megaphone'' exhaust (I was told that was the name of the exhaust on it), it is pretty much stock.
I had originally left that exhaust on because I wanted to source some original pipes but these are quite hard and expensive to find (and I sort of like the sound of the current exhaust).
But the exhaust is quite rusted so I am looking for new set.
What do you guys run on your K0?
4 in 1 or 4 in 2 seems to be the preferred option?
Thanks
David

most will tell you to put the stock exhaust on a ko,but the second choice in my mind would be a 4 into 2,hi from ns ,building a ko bit by bit.bill

I am with you on the original.  I am not even planing to bring my K0 to original due to the exhaust expense/availability.

Here are some stainless headers:

also CycleX has exhausts.

You can combine it with muffler from cone engineering.

We all hear you Roby...guess it depends on how original you want the bike too. The 4-4 HM300's are not cheap, but sure sound good and round out the look of a true survivor. I can't offer any advise on aftermarket exhaust as I go with the OEM's and will get my money back if I ever decide to sell a bike. You could start watching eBay as some guys have got some nice used sets there. May take a while to land all 4, but the cost is usually around $100 a pipe there.

I have the M bars on my 550 and really like them. No rise, but some pullback, a really good compromise position.

If you can afford the cost the Yamiya reproduction pipes are the way to go for a clean K0 like yours. But they are expensive. If you don't have that kind of spare cash I think the Hindle Cal linked to is a great looking setup and it's stainless, so it will never rust and can be polished to a great shine if you want.

That really good looking bike need stock 4-4
http://www.yamiya750.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=246_251_142_88&products_id=142
These pipes sounds well without diffusers. No numbers, HM300 replica.
They also need the heat shields, on on each side  + rear bolt with passenger footpeg and bolt/ washer kit + 2 rubbers for side stand and center stand. maybe you need a center stand too to make it complete.?

People comment my bike most of the time I ride it and park it somewhere. The 4-4 is a vital part of the ol CB750 look. Like a time machine bring up peoples old memories from back in the days.
It has the Lotus root pipes on now which sounds nice without diffusers that work well when engine is rather modified.
I have a new Hindle 4-2-1 from Ripplerock racers I planned to use to squeeze out max power. But I'll wait since I like the 4-4 as it is.

I installed this Motogpwerks today. Purely mock set up to see if another issues resolved but for the price over stock 4-4, I don't mind.

If you can't bring yourself to drop $1,500 (or however much) on a set of 4into1 pipes, maybe just wait for a bike with nice pipes to pop up and swap them out? I'm not very familiar with the early 750's tho so I don't know the compatibility of a KO to other models (pre 78 of course)

That bike is so nice, defintiely a dream bike of mine. you owe it to yourself to get the right pipes for it.

Thanks for all the options. I know, original would be nice but even the tamiya repro, they cost lots and you still need the hardware and small protective covers...

That is not a megaphone it is a "Goldie" style as in BSA gold Star, with that search you may find a replacement to fit
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

I'd certainly consider a new Predator system, they are really good, I've been running one for years.

http://predatormotorsport.co.uk/HONDA-4-Stroke-Exhausts-700cc-to-999cc-Road-Legal/

Also they are full stainless and fully lifetime guaranteed, somewhat unlike Delkevic's paltry 12 months.

What a nice K0!
Yes, the stock repops are expensive. I think DSS gets theirs from the same place Yamiya does. I love mine and I think they just complete the look and the sound.
Here on Maui we have to get an annual "safety check" sticker on vehicles. Yesterday I took the K3 to the Harley/Honda dealer for the inspection and they gathered around, it was the first time they have seen the bike since the assembly. They loved it and they wanted to hear it.
Of course, I did the project for my own satisfaction but it's nice when it's appreciated..

I agree with checking Ebay for them. I found a guy with Ebay name jtmarks77 that seems to have ALOT of 750 parts, and knows the fitment pretty well.

That's his name!!!  I had forgotten his name as the build was a few years back!  I purchased lots of stuff from him.  I should give him a call I'm sure I actually have his phone number somewhere as I purchased some hard to find parts that he didn't have on eBay.

Cheers

I might have just purchased a Motogpwerks today...   I will put it on while watching eBay to try to find original ones.  I think that for the price of the reproduction stuff I might as well put something not rusted on for a few years while I look.  The ones on there now are annoying me with the rust and damaged baffles (damaged baffles could also degrade smoothness of engine running).
It could take a while to assemble a set of original pipes so here it is :)
