It depends on the type of lathe.  Belt driven?

Do you mean it is just wired wrong.. should be 2 wire need reversing..
I once ran one a few days, identical to mine, but wired in reverse.. that was weird.. :o

How big a lathe is it?

is gear driven with a 16' bed, 30" swing. is wired and working properly. i just dont know how to use it. is turning in the wrong direction for cutting and cant figure which of the multitude of levers and buttons reverses it.
no machinist on site to show me how and wont be for 3 weeks.
am used to a tool room lathe, much simpler.

If the lever is on the apron, often moving lever opposite direction reverses. Ie, neutral or off is in the middle.

if you post the make (and model if possible) of the lathe you may get some help with this.  every maker has their own scheme of controls.

In the meantime, flip your cutter upside-down and get to work!

**EDIT**

oops, sorry, just realized the make and model were in the title.  Don't see much about them on the web aside from a flashy catalog.  You could try calling Trens' tech support and see if they will help you.  Often they have operation manuals available online for download.

good luck!
