OT: Computer - "Unresponsive Script"
« on: August 21, 2010, 04:33:45 AM »
After several viruses and malware infections, I did a reboot and installed Firefox as my browser. I've been free of the bad stuff ever since (several months now). All of my spyware/malware and virus protection is up to date and all scans declare the computer clean.
I've also kept up with all the updates for my computer, etc.

The only ANNOYING AS HELL problem I am having is that I keep getting "Unresponsive Script" warnings. It happens randomly and on any given website. I may be trying to go forward or backwards a page, open a link, open a site...no real rhyme or reason to it.
When it happens, the computer just locks up, the bar across the top of the screen says "Not Responding" and I get a small window (from Firefox?) that pops up and says:

A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.

Script: file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Owner/Application%20Data/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles/zpa7gnx9.default/extensions/%7B635abd67-4fe9-1b23-4f01-e679fa7484c1%7D/components/nsYahooFileIO.js:26

Of course, the file name may be different, but it's the same warning. If I stop the script, it will continue. If I let the script continue, the computer just keeps sitting there and whirring and thinking FOREVER.

What is this, what does it mean and how can I stop it?

Format the HD & reinstall the OS might be a consideration for what it's worth.
You'll have a clean start & the system will run a lot better.
Back up your data first if you decide to go this way.
There's some time & patience involved.

That's what I did a few months ago. Been using Firefox as my browser and almost zero pop-up ads and NO viruses.
I just keep getting this unresponsive script notice ever since going to Firefox and doing the format.

I have noticed this on certain pages the require the flash plug in. I don't think it will be worth your time to format and such.
I have noticed that lately firefox and flash have not seem to play well together. It seems fairly common judging by the adobe flash forum with no real fix at this time.
It seemed to have started with flash 10 and firefox 3.6.8 and has affected both my pc and mac so it is a fundamental coding issue I think.

As much as I like firefox normally, maybe drop chrome in and try it or download the beta 4 of firefox.
