CB550K front brake questions
« on: August 19, 2010, 11:07:57 pm »
When I bought my CB550 a few months ago it didn't have a complete brake system for the front end.
I've picked up a caliper, rotor, caliper swing arm but the caliper swing arm does not have the spring loaded adjustment. It was bare.
So, what does this adjustment device do and do I need it?
Can it be made, if NLA from Honda?

Anyone have some good close-ups of the adjustment mechanism?
I'm presuming it rides against the rotor and controls the depth of the caliper relative to the disc.

Appreciate your help in showing me this device or providing other related info...

The bolt goes through the hole in the swing bracket and threads into a boss on the alloy fork leg with a spring between the two to push the static pad off the disc, many bikes work without them with no problems but i am a believer that Honda did not do redundant design features

Here are a couple pics for you from both sides. You will need that to center the caliper on the rotor. Pretty inexpensive to get it right.

EBAY is your friend dude. You can find just about any part you need new or used. I would find one and install it. Honda put it there for a reason and brakes are nothing to skimp on.

Edited to add:

The price is right but the shipping is a bit high. You'll have to find a spring and a nut.

Johnie, bryanj, Duanob;
Thanks for the info and replies. Appreciate the photos Johnie!

Need to find the rotor shield and the spring/adjustment bolt and  then pickup some new braided lines.

Going to have the front rotor drilled for better wet weather performance; so I don't end up dropping the bike
when the pads dry the rotor and then grab...

Thanks again!

I ran mine for at least 15 years without it, but I got all if it from David Silver.
