is it worth it?
« on: August 22, 2010, 12:25:46 PM »
Sorry for this type of thread. I just find its the easiest way to figure out what the general thought is.

Back info. Wanting a project pretty bad. But first off i have been wanting to build up a motor for a very long time. I believe with the material found online i should be able to complete the project knowledge wise as long as funds are there. I have been keeping an eye out for a basket case around here for the past 6-8 months but all have sold for more then what i am willing to pay at the moment. Now i did stumble across a 73 750 Motor for sale(complete with carbs) for 100 bucks. Worth it? I think so from what research i have done. but would like other peoples opinion. Has a stuck piston. But like i said i plan on changing all that out and making it minty fresh. What do you guys think? Thank you very much.

if it's been sitting out in a field for 3 yrs then i wouldn't bother but $100 for an engine you'll be rebuilding is not too bad to use for spare parts at least. you'll have to buy a frame anyway so it might be best to wait for a more complete bike. i bought a '75 CB750 for $300 that was missing the carbs and exhaust but the engine turned over, it had 21500 miles on the odo, never been opened and i bought it from the second owner. i thought it was a good deal but many here will tell you not to buy a bike that is not running. have you tried craigslist? there are a pretty steady stream of CB's on my local craigslist but i don't know where you are located.

Not sure how long its been sitting. But i know its been sitting in his garage for at least 4-5 years. Before that i have no clue. Thanks. I still probably might pick it up for spare if anything.
