$500.00 for 74 cb750...what do ya think (pics)
« on: August 22, 2010, 05:52:00 PM »
I can see the below from the pics.

Its been painted.
Aftermarket exhaust.
Aftermarket turn signals.

Per the owner..it starts up and they have a title.  Battery is dead (hear this alot)

Have not taken a look in person yet.  Could probably talk them down $50-$100 and pay $400.00 or so.

If it's titled, and runs good I'd do it, heck, even if it doesn't run good and they'll come down $50 or $100...I think someone changed the seat too.....

I'd do it.  I'm a bit soft in the head when it comes to CB750s though.  :)  If I were doing it, I'd be assuming I needed a saddle, pipes, paint, maybe side covers, maybe gauge work and plenty of maintenance issues like: MC rebuild, caliper rebuild, fork seals, tachometer seal, rear shocks, carb cleanup, new air filter, possibly a rectifier (if they've been jumping it because of the bad battery, they may have gotten the polarity wrong once or twice), electrical connection cleanups nearly everywhere, possibly some cables (throttle (2), clutch, tach, speedo), tires, steering head bearings, swing arm bushings, maybe wheel bearings.  Are you sufficiently discouraged?  Send the deal to me :)

i bought my 76 550 at a swap meet for 600, fresh paint, no side covers, all stock and i rode it 20 miles home.

that thing is complete, and from the looks just sitting. grab that thing up!

Well, this is my $400 1972 CB750 and it didn't run. Still doesn't really...But that's another story.

If I were you, I'd buy it. Unless you need a bike to ride RIGHT NOW, these are pretty simple bikes and it would be a fun project.

I brought a 73 750K for $300 with title.  It runs but needs the carbs cleaned and a winters work.  I need to finish my 550 project and then 750 heaven. The Hondaman's book will get a lot of use.  Go ahead buy her.

Offer him $300 and meet in the middle somewhere! If you have a battery take it with so you can hear it run. I'd buy it!

I'd pay $400 for that sure. Especially if it runs.
Bring a battery or preferably battery pack car jumper.

Be warned though. Don't think you're going to spend $400 and call it a day.
It's real easy to spend money replacing/fixing things on these old bikes. Especially since it's so fun. :D
