Topic: Leaky Oil Pressure Sending Unit

Anybody ever have a problem w/ a leaky oil pressure sending unit ABOVE the starer motor? Mine is leaking all of a sudden pretty good. Pain in the balls to get to, maybe remove it and teflon tape the threads? Not sure if that'll fix it, maybe its leaking out the top or something? Who knows the trick to remove and fix ez?

I don't know but if someone has a good quick fix I would like to know- mine is leaking pretty well itself.

They can fail in that manner. Good idea to replace the sender if it is the source of leak before it fails completely and sprays your oil out onto the road or your pants or worse, your rear tire.

About 36.00 (ouch) iirc. Don't lose the very small nut that holds the wire on. It doesn't come with the new unit and can get away from you during assembly/dis assembly quite easily. Part number has been superceeded several times, but they are still available.

Anyone know if those are pipe  thread? If they are i bet a general motors sender would work they are just a ground switch are they not?

If you have a gauge then no, if it is just driving an idiot light then yes, IF the trigger psi is the same, then the GM unit (aftermarket) would work fine.

I just replaced my Sender unit with one from NAPA Auto Parts. The thread is a standard pipe thread and you need a unit that activates at about 6 psi.  The cost was about $7. It works fine. I did have to change the attachment spade, but that was easy. I just drilled a 1/8" hole in the spade and used a 3mm bolt to attach the wire. This is on a CB 550

ive used generic ones no trouble,the actual pressure spec isnt really important,,you watch it as it goes off when you start,if it comes on when under way something is about to crap,ive pulled a couple from 500/550 motors that were ex go cart and they have a reverse sense switch,,i assume this was rigged into the ignition so it wont start until oil pressure comes up?

I've just replaced mine on the 750 with one from DSS. They're not that hard to get to and not that hard to change. Mine was leaking from around the plastic internal bit - it was just spinning freely in the housing...........making a hell of a mess. It wasn't leaking out the thread.

Here's some part #'s for the oil pressure switch.  They were used on a lot of cars, so they're available in aftermarket.  The main differences will be the shape of the top part of the switch.

OEM Honda - 37240-P13-013 (current part #), 35500-333-014 (old #)

Echlin(NAPA) - OP6075

Beck Arnley - 201-1679

Standard Motor Parts - PS200

Borg Warner - S4135

A long time ago I had one start to leak on me, the light came on but the motor felt okay and was very close to home.  Got into the garage and found a small weeping around the part of the switch where the plastic meets up with the base.  Replaced the switch with OEM honda ($30) problem solved.  If I remember correctly had to remove the cam chain tensioner to get a socket on it, though.  Hope this helps!

I just purchased the Napa part ( Echlin(NAPA) - OP6075- $17.20 +tax) and will report on the install and how well it plugged the leak.

Ok, finally put the Napa part on and it does not let the boot fit over it- so if you are looking for the boot to fit perfectly over the top the Echlin Napa part is not for you.

That staunched quite a bit of leaking oil but it looks like the chain oiler will need some servicing. Is there any way to plug the leak without doing something permanent like JB weld? Something that can be undone?
