General rant, just ignore it
« on: August 26, 2010, 02:08:56 AM »
Just done the figures for our two bikes, $90 new battery for hers, $48 each for Warrants of Fitness, $600 Registration for my bike and $321 for hers, oh yeah and she needs a new helmet cos her scooter one is just plain dumb on a real bike!
Um so what's that?
About $1200 so we can go riding agin this summer....I could've bought another bike for that!!! >:(
OK rant over....move along folks...nothing to see here today.....but my tears... :'(
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

PFFFT! If you're talking Kiwi dollars Hushy, that's fcuk-all, can't you just smuggle some drugs into jail up your arse and sell it to the crims?  ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

That's WAy out of line- especially registration.  I couldn't afford to own even one motorcycle if that were the case here.
Are cars the same?

No you started it.
600 bucks for registering a bike seems really excessive. What bike? What would a brand new sport bike cost to register? What does a new car cost to register?

Just be sure to use a little lube on the bum Hush.

Makes the contraband slide in a little easier.  :)

Cars are cheaper to register here as most of the motorcycle rego is Accident Compensation Corporation tax, apparently we riders cost the Govt too much in rehab even though most of us have the decency to die on impact when hit by cars going through stop signs. >:(
Unfortunately Terry the popular belief that crims have money is a total falacy, most always get caught and if they do manage to steal something they sell it for drugs fairly quickly, I have yet to meet a rich prisoner. ;D
I'm thinking of running for parliament, my only concern will be motorcyclists and reducing their costs, we have plenty of one issue parties already in parliament with the Maori party and greens so why not the M/C party? :D
Judging by the rally when the govt put the rego up on bike this year I would get at least one seat and as most older motorcyclists are thinkers who actually get off their arse and vote on polling day I like my chances. ;)
The most unfair thing is the way bike taxes are set, my 30 year old 650 Honda costs more than the latest 400 rice rocket from Japan because the dumb arse politicians don't understand horsepower only CC rating!

Hush, you would get my vote straight away.  I have just registered my GL1500, and have put my 350F and 400F on exemptions for the present to save some $$$. The 400 is in the throws of a rebuild anyway, and the 350 although running is next for a going over, so I figured why pay rego fees for something I am currently not riding.

That's no good Hushy, do you have "classic rego" or "club rego" in NZ? It costs around 100 bucks a year (which includes medical insurance if I'm inconsiderant enough not to die at the scene) here in Victoria and at the moment you can only ride your bike on club runs and for "testing" purposes, but it's slowly being revised so that you can ride for any purpose for up to 3 months per year, which suits me fine, with 8 bikes in my garage over 25 years old, and I think I can swap the plate between bikes?

The problem with motorcycle registration/medical insurance here in Oz is that it's up to the states to decide what to charge, I live in Victoria but my Triumph Rocket III is still registered in my brother's name in South Australia, they have a much better system than Victoria, it costs a lot less and you can pay every 3 months, 6 months or annually, and if you take your bike off the road for any extended period of time, they'll suspend your rego until you tell them that it's right to go again, and it doesn't cost you anything.

I suppose I shouldn't tell you all this mate, next thing I'll know you'll be in a leaky fishing boat, dressed up as an Iraqi with your missus in a burqa seeking refugee status! ;D

ive just switched mine to "solo"registration,no rear pegs and the seat must be less than 500mm long,so i got a home made seat passed, put the real one back on but omitted the rear pegs, about one third the cost now!little "modification"plate under the seat using factory bolt holes.
