This is definitely one of the better endings I've heard regarding vintage bikes and insurance.  I was laughing that your bike was worth almost as much as your car.  From a fellow midwesterner, cheers!

Looking great! and glad you're back, what else did you have to replace besides the triple clamp and wheel?

Thanks guys! Ya'll are too kind!

how you liking those bar end mirrors with the super bars?

haven't had too much time with those yet but i think they're going to be good. they have a concave (convex?) mirror so you can see a wider area which i like better than my old napoleans that had a flat mirror. the bars are the bikemaster "european" ones. they are what i had before the wreck and i liked them so much i bought the same ones

You work pretty quick, I don't suppose having the bike in the dinning room had anything to do with it.

you better work quick when you're getting the stink eye from your spouse. i told her it would only be in the house for a couple of days ;)

Do you have a straight edge you can check the fork tubes in case one is tweaked a little?

i did try that before i put the forks back on the bike and they seemed straight. would it be really obvious or very subtle?

have you tried centering the stearing with clamps loose ?

yep tried that a few times. finally ended twisting the front wheel in the direction i thought it needed to go and then tightend eveything back up. i might have possibly ended up with another crooked steering stem. i thought next i would try switching the left and right forks and see if the wheel ends up pointing the other way. if it does then the forks are bad if it doesn't then the trees are bad.

what else did you have to replace besides the triple clamp and wheel?

guages, rear fender, tailight, grab bar, turn signal, right hand controls, bars, all cables, fork ears, seat cover, headlight, side covers. while it was at it i mounted new tires, changed the wheel bearings and installed tapered steering bearings.

My new petcock showed up today so i got that put on and reinstalled my carbs. She fired right up and I went for about a 20 minute ride. No more gas leaking or stuck open floats!
