To much junk out there on the road not to protect myself....  so both of my normal helmets have full face shields... one's  flip down with an internal sun visor as well as clear shield.... the other is a simple 3/4 with a flip down face shield...

I started out using a full face helmet for added protection for the lower part of my face and because I don't like getting wind in my eyes.  I wear glasses so wraparounds aren't really an option.  I've had too much crap bounce off my visor with a hard loud knock to consider using anything else now.  Not to mention the pebbles that have chipped the windshield on my car.  If you can't stand the full face helmet or a full shield, I'd at least go with goggles.  Something with safety glass that wouldn't shatter into shards if it got hit with a small pebble.

gmonkey has got it right.

Glasses will not protect your face/eyes from bugs and they can
hurt like crazy.

If I didn't have a fullface helmet I'd get gogoles.

I have 2 pair of the glasses with the surround foam.  One pair, that I use with my half helmet, I have super-glued an adjustable strap on so that I can secure them like goggles.  The 2nd pair I use with my full face helmet (my eyes are sensitive to even the slightest wind inside).  Both have interchangeable lenses: Dark for day time, Amber for night.  The Amber lenses increase contrast for me.
