I must apologize for not replying sooner, been busy.  I put a high temp black paint on the exhaust from kbs coatings. http://www.kbs-coatings.com/hi-temp.html   If I wasn't a tight ass I would have gone with a high temp powder/ceramic coating.  I can't remember how much I spent, but I think the Cone Eng products with shipping were around $100, the headpipes with shipping were around $50-$60 and the paint was ~ $30, so we'll say $200 total.  If I had to do it again I would have made the baffle removable so I could test wrapped vs unwrapped baffles.  All in all exhaust is holding up nicely.

Just stumbled onto your thread.  Terrific work, and sounds great!  My original 4 into 4 is in very good condition, and while I like the classic look, I really like the profile you get with the 4 into 2.   Now that the headers are welded together in pairs, can you remove them without difficulty?   Did you give any thought to slip-on mufflers?
