I think there is merit with the cycle x ignition system; there are numbers, charts and statistics to confirm improved performance, fuel economy, spark output, etc.
I guess my issue is that it all seems to boil down to "Ken" and speaking with Ken and dealing with Ken and getting advice from Ken and having to consistently call him back and back because I never ever received a simple email response to basic question. All of the auto responses and then his prolonged chatter about things irrelevant to my issues.
Maybe he's a guru and maybe if I was running a race bike I'd need his expertise and put up the pure hassle of working with him.
But Dyna is simple, plentiful, generic, proven, readily interchangeable. I just want my bike to start better, run smoother, be more reliable. I don't want to tear up Salt Flats, just go all the time.

You're doing better than me if you can even get hold of Ken or Jake mate, I'm still waiting for a reply to some emails I sent them a month ago! For my money, I'd buy the Dyna 2000, I can't think of any benefits that the CX item has over the Dyna, and Dyna's after-sales service is superb. Cheers, Terry.

Yes, that's the whole point for me. I was ready to buy a cycle x system, went to their pay pal checkout and there were two options for my 73 cb750. I just emailed him asking which of the two parts #'s I should specify, two days later and a bunch of Ken doesn't like sending emails" and "Can you call back in an hour?" I just said #$%* it.
My Dyna system, with module, plate, coils, plug wires and extra connectors/hoods came in for less than $300 from a seller on eBay. Dyna tech support answered my question(s) without any need for info about where, when how or who I bought it from.
I do hope someone from cycle x reads this and understands they lost at least one sale from simply being stupid about dealing with someone who wanted to buy something from them.

All I'll say at this point is the next time I'm looking to do something to the ignition system it will not be the Cycle X system. Like the company, like Ken, but I'll be looking to try something else.

Yep, I agree mate, I like Cycle X too, I've bought their lockup clutch and some 2" over fork tubes and the quality was great, but like you, I don't like being screwed around. Cheers, Terry.

My old Dyna III unit was first installed mid 80's and it still works fine. Never considered carrying my old plate around. If you're afraid you might break down then stay at home or get towing insurance. #$%* can happen with anything. I bought a new Dyna 2000 with the different timing curves and rev limiter for my new expensive engine.

Another thing about buying new coils, you will get new plug wires and new caps and thats usually a good thing. Our old original wires and caps have a limited life span.

I wish I could find a NOS Dyna III Jerry, I bought one from a member here 10 years ago and it produced the brightest spark I've ever seen on a CB750! No joke, I'd only have to wave my thumb near the starter button and that thing (my first F2) would be purring like a kitten. Only problem was I'd left a plug in one of the leads sitting in the tool tray and cranked the engine, and BOOM! The battery exploded! That taught me a valuable lesson........ Anyway, Dyna don't make the III anymore, so if anyone sees a new one anywhere, I wanty!

Ha ha, nothing sensible guys, my K1 "Kruiser" that I built a few years ago was a tribute to my first K1 that I owned back in the early 1980's, I used it for my daily commute when I lived in Sydney, before I was posted back to Melbourne.

The two inch over forks give it a more "laid back" attitude, I certainly wouldn't use skinny 35mm forks on anything that I expected to handle, and of course the longer they are, the more they flex. My K1 isn't too bad as I used K8 sliders and a Telefix fork brace, along with tapered roller steering head bearings. Here's a pic, if it's not raining tomorrow, I might fire it up and take it for a ride! Cheers, Terry.

Whats the deal with the Dyna 3's Terry ? Are they as adjustable as the 2000? or a different thing altogether...

G'Day Mick, nah, they're probably not as good as the Dyna 2000, (not adjustable anything) but I've got a soft spot (between my ears) for them, I had one on my first F2, and compared to the POS OEM points ignition's pathetic yellow spark , it was like a friggin' MIG welder!

ALRIGHT LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!!!!!!! i got the new dyna in and running!!! it wasn not to bad on install, just a couple dee~da~dee moments!!! i just eyeballed the timing and iwas was dead nuts on! i checked it the next day, and it was perfect!! now all i have to do is just look at the startered button, and it fires and idles instantly!! and it actually runs ALOT better with it in!!! i am really impressed and recommend dyna ignition to everybody!!!  thanks to all for their input and help!!!!!!!!!!
