So I noticed something today it was like 60 or 65 (cold enough for a jacket...) and I still was able to kick start my bike with no choke at all (actually tried to die with choke).  This doesn't seem quite right I have a feeling I am burning way rich.  Mind you I haven't synced the carbs yet.  I recalled our bikes being hard to start cold am I just like really lucky?  I have my idle set around 1200+ RPM

Can't say this for all of 'em, but it seems that the more often we run them, the easier they start.  My 500/4 is that way, and it catches me by surprise how easily she starts in fifty degree weather when I've been riding everyday.

Man I have been slacking its been a little chilly the last few nights and had a wedding to go to ect so I haven't done anything at all aside from kick it over the other night and have a buddy help me get it on the center stand. You know even with a rolling start can't seem to get it to dig in enough to get on it on my own for some reason. Is there supposed to be rubber or groves on the center stands mine are just a smooth metal ovals  ???

I have wensday off so I am thinking tonight I might try and pull off the rear tire, clean it up, mount the new shoes, mount the new tire and then paint it then change the one on the front too..... Pretty ambitious but I think I can pull it off between tomorrow night and wensday day..... If I get that done I can work on the side panels thursday and go to the insurence and dmv friday for plates and insurence... Then have all night friday, saturday to ride.  The leaves just started to change the last few days and its getting colder at night (49 tomarrow) so I am getting kinda antsy to ride before it all goes to hell.  ;D

I've wondered the same thing. All I can manage is sliding it backwards on the floor.

Nope, just bare metal.  My trick is to use my weight to push down on the stand while lifting with the grab bar.  My 500 might be different tho, and she's about thirty pounds lighter.

Dude I weigh like 250 and it ain't helping lol.  and I had to have my buddy push, hold the lever with my food and pull on the grab bar!  Might be partially because my rear shocks are sagging I suppose.

So today me and my buddy Mason both had the day off and he volunteered to help me with the tires...  A few members on here told me it was a PITA but a friend of mine who has a 76 told me it was a piece of cake.... He was wrong....  After an hour and a half we managed to puncture the inner tube, scrape up the rim, and finally CUT the tire off of the rim.  On the bright side after looking at the tire and inner tube I'm glad I did it anyway and didn't try to ride on it.  The tire was literally coming apart as we were trying to pry it off.  I'll say one thing I'll never do it again and I have no idea how someone could do this on the side of the road by themselves.

BTW anyone in MI know a good shop that will mount bike tires on the cheap?

Yea I just got a email from them.

"what were the part numbers you received? I am unsure of what we can do but will ask my manager for you. "

So we'll see what happens I'll grab the numbers off of them most likely I bet they are gonna check the inventory and see if they are missing something.
Has anyone else here had issues with oldbikebarn.com?

Also on a little side note any idea where I can get tubes?  Do bike tire places usually have our sizes?  I seem to be having issues finding them.

For tube sizes on my bike....it's funny, for the front..."WE DON"T Have THAT SIZE".... but as soon as I tell them a heavy duty motocross tube will do ....they have 5 in stock.... the rear one I had to order in...but they are definately available from many tube makers.

Cheers!

Yea HN thats whats I'm gathering, gonna call a few local shops in the am and hopefully get my tires mounted tomorrow.  Paint the rear rim, hit my insurence and secretary of state and with some luck be riding by the evening.

OH and an update OBB got back to me and are gonna refund the difference between the dunlop and kenda tires.  I suggested this as a compromise to avoid shipping (and waiting) for the dunlops.  besides from what I have heard the kendas aren't to bad and damn it I want to ride before it gets to cold!

Thanks for the inspiration.  I just picked up a rough CB500 that I was going to do in all black like that.  Although I'm going to put some small bits of colour in a couple spots but that will be revealed when I start work and do a build thread.

Anyway, I really like the look of that.  It turned out great.

Thanks man tires go on tomorrow and I just got the insurance and plates today.  Next year its gonna change a bit.  Finned engine covers with polished edges, black engine guards, stainless or chrome spokes (I need a new rear rim it's scratched beyond saving but will work to ride on for now), euro super sport bar, dual disc and air assist conversion with drilled rotors, GSXR controls, cafe seat, the engine itself will get a painted black withe the cooling fins and tapet covers polished, chrome hex screws finish installing, drum vented...with more drilled holes and the chain cover.  Spikey should be proud when its done lol.

Thanks man

OK so I got a little done over the last few days.  Got a new battery, the tires remounted, and then spent last night cleaning the all the gunk off the rear rim, sprocket, chain tensions (their chrome... who knew!) drum ect.  I also installed the front tire yesterday and charged the battery.  Today I'm gonna paint the rim and sprocket guard before work and with a little luck get it back together tonight and go riding Saturday.
