Food for thought.
« on: August 28, 2010, 10:11:31 AM »
Recently, a United States Marine was taking some college courses
between assignments. He had completed 20 missions in Iraq
and  Afghanistan . One of the courses had a professor  who
was an avowed atheist, and a member of the ACLU.

One day the professor shocked the class when he came in.
He looked to the ceiling and flatly stated, "GOD, if you are real, then
I want you to knock me off this platform... I'll give you exactly 15 min."

The lecture room fell silent. You could hear a pin drop. Ten minutes
went by and the professor proclaimed, "Here I am GOD, I'm still waiting."

It got down to the last couple of minutes when the Marine got
out of his chair, went up to the professor, and cold-cocked him,
knocking him off the platform. The professor was out cold.

The Marine went back to his seat and sat there, silently.

The other students were shocked and stunned, and sat there
looking on in silence. The professor eventually came to,
noticeably shaken, looked at the Marine and asked,
"What in the world is the matter with you?  Why did you do that?"

The Marine calmly replied,

"GOD was too busy today protecting  America 's soldiers who are protecting your right to say stupid stuff and act like an idiot. So He sent me."

The classroom erupted in cheers!

And then the student was arrested, thrown in jail and slapped with a law suit because he's an idiot.

Good story. ::)

So wait. Are you telling me that god, who supposedly made ALL the planets and stars and everything we see around us, has his hands full protecting ONLY our soldiers and not those of other people who also believe in god, just in a different way? So does that mean he is letting all these other people die in earthquakes and flooding and other natural disasters, fend for themselves too? So he is spending ALL his time protecting US soldiers who are dying anyways?
WOW what a massive load of crap.

Essentially what this is saying is that marines think that the god who made everything is spending all his time protecting them and yet they are in a way saying God can't even do that as almost everyday, some of them are dying.

I read it like this;

He thinks the prof is a dumbass, expounding his personal beliefs unrelated to the class being taught..IE, not doing his job.. and  tried to bring him back to the task at hand..

 The Pof expressed his opinion..

 The Marine expressed his..

THAT, is what I read into it...

And you can see it that way.
I choose to see it as yet one more plain attack on someone who just happens to believe differently. Sorry but I just cant see how God would protect ONLY our soldiers when he created ALL life. Pretty self serving, wouldn't you agree?
It would be like a person saying God protects Americans but leaves Canadians out to dry.
I highly doubt God sanctions these wars.

Did this really happen, or is it just a made-up feel-good story?  The religious people that keep forwarding these feel-good stories never seem to mind whether these things are true or not.

That was the stupidest thing I've ever read
It was actually pretty clever as long as it was intended for short sighted, American-centric, feel goodies.  Let me tell you mister, there's a few things that I learned from bible school, and one is that God looks down on killing/violence.  There is no country that is better or any man that is better than the other.  All are born naked and and all will die naked and be delivered.  It is what you do here that makes you great or not, and being a cheering section for a organization that fights for what the #$%* ever is a shallow and vicarious position to say the least.  I respect soldiers from every country and I understand the "job" they do, but they are simply pawns of governments that have nothing to do with Gods will.  A person may believe in God but the rulers of people do not.  They are false prophets.  Figure it out and stop waving your flag, bible and finger at the same time.  You should choose one the one you are most comfortable with and stick with it, for they have no relation to each other.
That is all.  --Cupcake out--

Maybe if the teacher would have been doing his job teaching the course, isntead of making a political statemetn, he wouldn't be walking around with a lump on his head.

I'll bet you he dosen't do it again.

I don't doubt that, but this "version" clearly says Iraq.

Bingo.

I'll ask it again, why don't the people passing these on care that they are not true?

But for the record, the version of this story I like best is the one where the professor blocks the soldier's punch and karate chops him.  I'd be interested to hear the versions of this story you guys like best....   ::)

Just so I understand....how is it "lame" to expect a professor to teach instead of preach?

Please, do tell!

There's  a big difference between "preaching" and stating the obvious. All that story {lie} tells me is to beware of brainwashed idiots, when all else fails some religious extremist will have his time and screw everything up.....Some people seem to never learn from history, this type of crap has gone on for millennia, all in the name of someone's god .
Your Government must love these blinded fools, just point them at the enemy and let them serve their god.......Any god will do....

It is just one of those "urban legends" that have floated around for years.  A stupid story made to make you feel good on first reading but when you really think about it is pretty pathetic.  Someone is assaulted because he said something that another took as offensive but well within the right of free speech.  Then the idea that somehow God stamps his seal of approval on America's wars is a very dangerous idea.  Let's see who else thinks that way....the Taliban and Al Qaida. I seem to recall the Nazis marched with "Gott Mit Uns" on their belt buckles.

When someone takes a college class, they go in with the expectation that the SUBJECT will be taught, nothing else.
