RIP Shoya Tomizawa
« on: September 05, 2010, 02:10:04 PM »
Anyone who saw Moto2 today will be saddened by the crash involving Shoya Tomizawa which resulted in his death.

I was particularly disgusted by the marshall's handling of the situation, it was immediately obvious it was a serious incident and to scoop the 2 riders laying on the track on to boards to be man handled off the track to me was bordering on criminal. I hope that the timing for the MotoGP race and keeping Television happy wasn't the reason, or is that me being cynical?

As usual my thoughts at this time are with his family.

Agreed Malcolm.
RIP.

Peter.

(Did you notice at one of the other accidents a marshall walking across the sand trap dragging a foam barrier - smoking! Nice if there had been any fuel spilt  ::)).

I always rooted for him in Moto2 and hoped to see him race in big classes. I am saddened by the news. He was not even 20 years old....

Yes I saw that too, wasn't sure what he had in his mouth, marshalling requires 100% concentration, yes a lot is voluntary but if you cannot give 100% then get out, DO NOT go for a free day of spectating or your 15mins of fame. I just hope questions are asked by MotoGP riders after all the same marshalls were looking after their race.

Those marshalls should face prosecution for their actions - disgusting behaviour. Who knows if he would be alive today if they had acted properly and race direction had acted properly. Sometimes it isn't all about the money...  :(

its paul butler's call , he is the race director , he watches the race , he should have stopped it .
i am at every british superbike meeting and stuart higgs [race director ] stops racing straight away so that riders can receive medical attention .  another thing that makes bsb safe is that they use the same marshals at every circuit [ not practical for a world series ] but maybe there should be some sort of standard that marshals are expected to meet .  for instance no smoking a cigar while dropping a badly injured rider off a stretcher .
