New,(old CB550)), bike in the stall. Got questions.
« on: August 28, 2010, 12:57:38 PM »
Just picked this bike up last night.
Don't know much about the 550's but for $100, I figured I would take a chance.
I believe it is a 1974, but not sure yet. The guy I bought it from couldn't find the title and I can't see the tag on the front, because the fairing is in the way.  Not worried about the title, because it is very easy to get a new title here in Michigan.
It has been sitting outside for a year or two, so it ain't quite as nice as it looks in the pictures.
Haven't had a chance to get to far into it yet, but is pretty much complete. I have both side covers, but they both are broken somewhat.
I will be taking the fairing and seat off and replacing them with stock items.
The tank is faded on the top, but no dents or even scratches in it. The inside is spotless.
Turns over well, but no spark.
There were a couple packages of fuses in the fairing pocket, but I am not finding a fuse block.
I need to get a manual for it, especially a wiring diagram. Anyone know where I can find a printable on on line?
Tried the links in the FAQ section, but it says the links have been broken.
Are the pipes on the bike stock, or aftermarket? I have been looking at pictures on line and a lot of them have the same pipes on them.
Anyway, any help will be greatly appreciated.

You stole that bike!  Wish they were that cheap around here.  The mufflers are aftermarket.  May be the factory head pipes.  The K's had factory 4into4 pipes.

That's what I thought, but wasn't sure.
There aren't many around that cheap any more.
I was out for a ride on some back roads I hadn't been down before and seen it out sitting beside a barn a year ago.
I have been trying to catch someone around the place for awhile.
Finally seen someone there last night and stopped by.
The guy was probably in his mid to late 60's.
Said he had done some work for a guy as trade for the bike 3 years ago. He was planning on getting it going again, just never got around to it.
Wanted it gone.
Some time, timing is everything.
The bike definitely needs work to be worth much, but I do enjoy bringing old neglected bikes back to life. Beats sitting in front of the TV.
The real deals are out there, your just not going to find them advertised most of the time. Ride down roads you have never been on before,(at a slow speed), and keep looking around. And don't be afraid to ask.

Looks pretty good - particularly to have been outside. Lucky guy!

I'm always across the street asking for directions when these good deals are made. I'm never there!

'Glad for you.

Ya, I got the fairing off tonight and the tag says, manufactured in 8/75. Must be a 76.
I thought that paint sceem was in 73.
I would trade you your stock seat for the sweet king/queen seat that is on it. You know you want it! ;D
That seat is so ugly and heavy. Between that and the fairing, I bet it's 100 pounds lighter now.

"There were a couple packages of fuses in the fairing pocket, but I am not finding a fuse block."

The fuse block should be under the LH side cover. It should just pull straight off !CAREFULLY!
