Caliper A and B for CB 750 K4
« on: August 27, 2010, 01:04:15 AM »
Got inspection time coming up, and I was to clean up the front brake. PO has had a fight with the two bolts holding the A and B caliper together and rounded the umbraco heads. Struggled with them for a good time and I resign. Anyone has a functional caliper they don't need anymore? Guess all calipers until 1976 will do. Need it ASAP...

If you dont get the bolts out you will need a bracket as well.

Using adrill bit the same diameter as the thread on the bolt drill in the centre of the allen bolt till the head falls off, you can then split the halves and clamp the remaining bits of bolt (one at a time) in a vice and turn the alloy caliper away from it

I have six junk yard bikes and not one had a caliper these are a weak link and are rare as chicken teeth you will probably need to get one from ebay $70-$90. PS if your scrapping the messed up one you have let me know ill buy it I remachine them after welding the holes solid. The bolts usually strip (Galvonic corrosion) and then people get out the BFH and start whacking them until they are toast. (Big F****** Hammer) Im not sure why they use a hammer. Maybe they are trying to get the piston out? who knows.

CB750 calipers aren't rare and you shouldn't have to pay $70 to get one.  I had one listed on the sell board last year for $45 and nobody wanted it.  It was powdercoated gloss black, came with a genuine Honda seal and a brand new bleeder and new allen bolts also from Honda.  I ended up taking it to ebay and I only got $40 for it.  You should be able to pick one up for cheap.

This is what $40 could get you on ebay

Ya know I've got to say there are several posters who are not native English speakers who contribute greatly to this Forum and mostly you would not even know their first language was not English.... 'kudos' to them and well done for their efforts... I won't name names, thanks guys...

I believe he meant Unbrako. a hex tool brand, much like Allen..

Lars, try using a TORX to get the stripped hexhead out, if they have Torx where you live..

Well, yes, there is actually a world outside US, and all places I have been call them Umbrako, or umbraco as I spelt it with a c ;) I will pay attention and get it both ways next time, as we are not familiar with your Allen head. But now I know :)

I tried the torx, too, but it was completely stuck. Eventually I had to cut caliper B into pieces to get a grip on the Hex...Allen...Umbrako head, he he! The bolt was just as much stuck in the caliper B as in caliper A, even tough caliper B has no threads. I succeeded in getting the bolt out and caliper A is in very good condition. I have now found another caliper B and I think I will make it in time for my inspection.
