Opions please....
« on: August 13, 2010, 01:49:24 PM »
Here is my very amateure masking tape layout of the paint scheme I want to go with on my Tracy Body project. I'm thinking the base color will be a metallic silver and the stripes will be a matellic blue. Input please!
Also, what about the small chrome rear fender...yes or no??

I think it will look great!  I'd probably widen the stripes on the sides of the tank near the front so they drop down a couple more inches to follow the contour, but that's just my opinion.  I vote "no" on the rear fender.

Looks great mate, good job, and yep, lose that fender. How much does the tank hold, 1 gallon? Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Well I would say to keep the fender, unless of course you want to tempt the skunk stripe up your back! BUT, I would put in a different fender that kicks up at the back instead of going with the tire.

you could de-chrome the fender which would open up some options.

a darker color would de-emphasize it so maybe paint it the blue of the graphics? black wouldn't go with the 70's vibe.

or paint it white to continue the line of the body.  ???

or... make it removable for show.

Here is my latest mock up. GP bars, 130/90-17 rear tire and and wheel, later model front fender and a little different stripe. I thinking about staying with a white. Maybe a pearl metallic white with candy blue metallic stripe. I'm trying for a Shelby Cobra look. Yea, yea I know you don't like the little chrome rear fender. That's where I gonna mount my tail light and tag. It also ties the chrome front fender in. To me anyway.

Not my cup of tea either..... don't like the 'swoosh' of color front to back as the Tracy shape already gives the effect, more inspiration needed IMO.

I'm not going to say I Love my paint scheme. It is original and in good condition so I just kept "as is" it when I finished the build.
It has grown on me enough that I'm not in a hurry to change it.

Just another perspective ;)  "I had to fuzzy up the photo to get it small enough, sorry" ;)

Hey seaweb11,
I was hoping to get some comments from you. Since I got my Tracy Body I've been looking at the posts on your bike a lot. Man what a great find and what an unbelievable job you did with it! I didn't know that was the original paint scheme. Mine had all ready been sanded and spray painted when I got it. I could see some of the original graphics as I cleaned it.  Most of the original Tracy paint jobs I've seen were real 70's psychedelic look like the one I attached here.
Anyway right now I just trying to get all my thoughts and ideas in line before I start all the grinding, prep, powder coat, polish and paint. I hope to be finished by next spring.

personally, i think your scheme suits the body. that's what it's suppose to do after all- compliment the body contours.

i like your idea of pearl and candy. but again i'd make the blue on the tank a bit larger.

A couple of shades of silver you might like which would make a perfect base for Candy Blue stripes...

Honda Cloud silver (low metallic content)

Schwinn Grey Ghost silver (high metallic content)

Corvette Pearl silver metallic (pearl and metallic content)
