1974 CB200 trans ??
« on: September 01, 2010, 04:59:58 AM »
I picked up this CB200 the other day as a fixer upper.
The bike has just over 9000 miles and looks to be in pretty nice condition.
The guy told me first gear didn't work.
The bike seems to run o.k. but doesn't go in first, just a clicking noise.
If you put it in first and try to push it, it is definitely in gear.
Is this a case split deal to fix?
Has anyone done this and how difficult was it?

take the cover off on either the shifter side or the clutch side.  Don't know which side the shifter mechanism is on CB200's.  Make sure that the shift pawl is moving thru the full range of motion.  No need to remove the engine from the frame or split the cases.  Might be something simple.  If that doesn't do it, then you are going to have to take it apart completely.
