Deer Season 2010! Whats going on in your neck of the woods?
« on: September 01, 2010, 10:06:11 PM »
It started here in SC 8/15. Bucks only til 9/15. My camera hasnt picked up any nice bucks yet but does are around. We have a daily limit here.( not that it seems to help me) Our season runs til Jan 1st. Rifle, bow, baiting and dogs allowed. Any other states have this long a season? This guy is still around but im staying out of his area til he comes to me!(its so thick Id have to stab him) He's night time only though. That velvet is tempting. These are from last Sept. Hopefully, the next time you see this deer it will be in my truck.

That's interesting about your season.
In MN I believe that the (firearms) season is the first Saturday and Sunday in November and the second Sat and Sun in Nov with a grand total season limit of one per permitted adult.
We also have an antlerless (doe) tag, as well as muzzleloader and bow seasons, as well as special management hunts in select areas with higher (2-3) limits.

I'm not a deer hunter (but have worked at a gun shop off and on for many years) so I'm not 100% sure about this.

I've always wanted to deer hunt. With my work hours during harvest season though, I don't see it happening in the near future.  :-\

Im originally from northern NH. Vt/NH had similar seasons of bow first /muzzle loaders then rifle with one week bucks or does. Only one or the other with each weapon I believe. Rifle season was 3-4 weeks? I shot my first deer on Thanksgiving morning. My Father asked me 50 times if it had antlers.. So many times I figured it didnt. Im not sure who was happier when when we found that forkhorn laying in the brook.

Bow season is first but it's still automobile season around here. I had to shoo one off the road from my 750 a month ago!

No deer yet but I did take out a turkey on the ride home Friday. Actually I think he may have made it since there were not many feathers on the road and he was not in the ditch when I looked back.

California deer season ends this weekend for me, it runs 6 weeks total in my zones.
I've been out 3 times, nothing sofar. First two weekends it was hot and dusty. I took the weekend of the CHRR (California Hot Rod Reunion - Nostalgia Nitro Funnycar race in Bakersfield) off to race (we didn't win), but was back up last weekend in the pouring rain. Weatherman said we got 8" there at 6500' elevation, only 43 degrees, let me tell you it was like a fire hose for the entire trip. A river was running through the bottom of my tent... I lived in goretex the entire time. I lived through MANY wet seasons in Washington, this was WET!
I pray it snows for the last weekend, but it's looking more like the liquid stuff again. Whaaaaa.

When I moved to the countryside the neighbors asked if they could hunt on my land.
Sure, I said.
That winter one of the neighbors came over and plowed my driveway when we had a
storm with 2 feet + of snow.

Nice!!

It's bow season right now up here in my neck of the woods.... Rifle doesn't open until Nov. 15/16th. And I don't get the 2-3 deer limits!!  That's awesome!  We have to apply for A doe tag in certain WMU's (wildlife management units/areas)...if we don't get one it's A buck only.... I think you can apply for a second tag if you fill yours early...but I've never had that problem! ahah

I went for bow a couple weeks ago....I haven't had a chance to shoot yet....seen 3...doe with faun and a buck...all while I was walking though....and I didn't see them till the flags went up.

Going back in a week and a half... here's mine from last year taken on Manitoulain Island... it doesn't look very big but it was a large doe for the area....

Cheers!

My back yard.

I quit hunting when a 10 point buck got down behind a stone wall, that's right he got down and crawled, anything smart enough to do that is too smart for me to shoot unless I get real hungry.

I still take out my 35 Remington and clean it bout this time every year.

Nice doe Hed Nut. Anything with a bow is respectable. I tried 3 years in a row. I could get them real close but I always got busted at draw.  Here in the south during "Open Season" Ive seen them so small you pick them up with one hand! Ive been told they just grill em whole. If im going to clean it it has to worth my time.Going Sunday AM. Putting out some cob corn in the morning. Oh yeah did I mention we can bait them also ;D!!

Thanks bender! ....and you lucky man....you can bait them too!! .... Too COOL

I used to work with a guy who only ever rifle hunted...and he always knocked me about how dumb and easy deer are to hunt....I always argued with him.  He didn't understand how intimate you have to get with them to pokem' with an arrow...hehe....   To him...sitting in the corner of a farm field and shooting them from 200 yards is nothing.   To my with my bow a 40 yard shot is bordering uneasy for a solid guaranteed kill shot....but my bow is also a golden oldie (21 yrs old)...and they're making some pretty wicked machines these days...which could probably push the yardage up quite a bit!

Regardless... I have nothing but respect for all hunters!! Gun and Bow... they're all wicked in my books!! (and I'm just starting to get into the rifle this year and looking very forward to it!!)....I want to be a deer sniper...hahaha
