Where do I go for the parts I need?
« on: September 01, 2010, 04:49:23 PM »
Ok I dropped my bike off at Honda cause I got tired of screwing with it . They called me today and said that it would be like $700 to get it right.
So I need gasket kits for all for 4 carbs, jets they said 97.5's and air cut off valves for at least one , might as well get all 4 of them . (if there are 4)
Where is the best place to get those parts or is there a place I buy a rebuilt carb set on like a core exchange or something?

Probably going to need a lot more information.  What bike?  How is it acting?  etc, etc...

81 cb650 . Here is my other posts about it . Pardon the language I was angry and they dont mind on that forum.
So Im stuck at the bottom of the hill by my house , she cranks and cranks and sputters and tries to start , fires and dies , fires and dies. If I had hair Id pullit the #$%* out . Im trying to get the stupid peice of #$%* to start, I look at the petcock to make sure the fuel is on , it is , I have a clear glass filter on it I notice the whole bottom of the filter is black with all rust and crap that I didnt know was even floating in my tank. Son of #$%* !

Now I feel really stupid , when I first got the bike , my dad had this little plastic filter coming off the petcock and the one end was bent almost to the point where the fuel line was pinched off. So I took the fuel filter out and just ran the Line straight into the carbs. So before I put the the new filter on all that garbage thats in my tank must have been going into my carbs . GODDAMN IT!
I guess Im pulling the carbs again , and Im not going to use that tank now . Gonna mount the sporty tank I got I guess
I finally had some time to pull the carbs off last nite. I took the bowls off and there of course was a bunch of gunk sitting in the bastards, I gonna take them to my dad to make sure I do it correctly
ok.....so the sporty tank is on the carbs are all cleaned out , now its holds a decent idle .......first twist of the throttle is fine , 2nd ok , 3rd and 4th it starts to fall on its face . looks like now its just jetting and the carbs need synced .

Before you mess with jetting, make sure your air delivery path isn't blocked (filter, etc).  I put a shirt under my seat one time and it ended up on top of the breather grille thing under the seat.

Oh boy, where to start.

You need to clean your tank out first before you start anywhere, then a full tune up and then you can finish off with a carb cleaning.

No sense in cleaning your carbs when your tank is gonna muck it up immediately.

Check for spark at all plugs.

Time to learn Mechanics 101 just like everyone else.

That's part of the deal with these OLD bikes. You're actually lucky that a Honda dealer will do work for you. 99% of the dealers will NOT work on them. Some reasons: mechanics are no longer trained to work on bikes that are older than they are, dealers do not carry parts for them, parts are no longer available, too much time involved since rarely is there a single issue, and lastly - the repairs cost more than a bike might be worth. They won't "rig" them up like a shade tree mechanic will.

Thank the Honda shop, pay your bill for what they did and drop off a case of beer for the service department for telling you what you need to do.

Good luck and keep posting. There's plenty of help here. Stay calm, get out your credit card and enjoy your OLD HONDA.

Oh yeah, parts.... Most all the parts must be ordered from Honda by the dealers when you place your order. I just got a call from one of the local dealers for 2 6X80 bolts I ordered Th. Plan on having a week off every time you place an order. DO NOT get in a hurry! I place my larger, more expensive orders from ServiceHonda.com for the 20 to 30% discount but have to pay the shipping. Locals boys don't give discount but I don't have to pay $10 to ship those 2 $1.00 bolts.
