CB350f going back on the road
« on: May 19, 2010, 06:32:08 PM »
i was looking for a bike in the 300-500cc range to ride in brooklyn and upstate NY will im at school.  the idea was to find a very clean bike that i could polish up do the basic tune up stuff and enjoy STOCK...lol
i found a 73 cb350F about 3 hours from me and saw some pics....looked great.  talked to the guy....sounded great.  so i took the ride.  only to find out the pics were from a few years ago and the guy was being optimistic about what kind of shape the bike was in.   i was kinda pissed that the bike was not a nice as i was hopping.
then i start cleaning it up and see that the bike had been restored at one time.  the resto job was ok at best.
did get it to fire over.
needs carb rebuild and points

so long story short i have another cafe in the shop....lol

thought that the paint and chrome were going to be great.  figured it needed spokes and some other minor things
i was wrong
live and learn

dont show the girlfriend....she didnt really know i was going to fit a whole motorcycle in her jeep

cleaning up parts.

tins will be white.
tank will have red "knee pads"
red wheels

had leaking gaskets
also needed a new clutch

so far new
-ebc front and rear brakes
-ebc clutch
-ebc heavy duty clutch springs
-avon road rider tires
-new tubes

waiting on
-OEM fork seals
-poly brake piston
-OEM brake seal
-top end rebuild.

going to run clubmans and rearsets mounted on the pass foot mounts.
plan to keep the stock seat and not cut anything up in case i find a nice set of tins.
i really do want a nice stocker.

ok so the rear wheel is now laced.  going to try my had at truing it tomorrow.
i have to say that it was way easier to lace then i thought that it would be.  there is a great DIY in the FAQ forum.
started

finished.

after i get it trued i can mount the rear tire

have the head apart and cleaned up
forks are ready for the new seals.
side covers are ready for clear coat.
tank still needs some color work.
brake ready to go back together too.
really at this point im waiting for seals

im really happy that the bike is moving along as fast as it is.
just trying to do a light cafe and a fast "freshining" of the bike

That second pic you have up there is pretty funny, didn't think that would be possible in one of those.  Those Libertys, and Jeeps in general these days, seem to be chick cars.  They think it's "cute" and then sell it a year later when they realize the road noise from the tires sucks and they actually like to hear the radio.
Back to your bike...pretty colorful, I like it.  Good luck keeping that chain guard white though.

yeah the girlfriend loves her jeep.  its actually goes well off road.  ive put two cb160s in it in parts...lol  i dont really like to drive it.  im a euro sports car guy.
ive had
MG midget
jaguar xjs V12
jaguar X-type
and now i drive a MKV VW R32 is a bunch of bolt on mods

as for the bike yeah its striking with the colors.  might be a bit too much.
i hope that the read of the tank links it all together.
i just didnt want to paint everything black, ive seen that too many times.
i might do the chain gaurd and front fork tins in black and leave the wheels read and tank, sidecovers white

the base gasket is being a Bit*# and doesnt really want to come off nice.

i hope to have the top end rebuild with new valve seals, lap job and put back together by this weekend so i can paint the motor and get it back in the frame.

also on the "to do list"
-put front forks back together.
--they are painted and waiting on seals
-lace and true front wheel
--waiting for paint to dry

still need to order clubmans and figure something for rearsets

clear is setting up now.
going to run a thin pin stripe where the red meets the white.
its a 5-10 footer and im happy with that.
goal with this bike is to have something that runs great but only looks ok.  that way its safe on the roads in brooklyn

carbs are being cleaned up now.
should be running by the end of the week

well she runs!
took a lot to get the carb floats right.  not really sure why.
took her around the block.  fun bike.

i need to replace the rear tube as i must have nicked it when i installed it >:(
also need to mount the R1 rearsets that i bought

i seem to have a funny wiring problem.  i cant turn the head light out?  i think that i need a new handlebar control as its kinda ugly in there and the contacts dont feel right.

well she needs a new right hand switch.  having alittle trouble finding it.
broke down and started to think about selling her to fund the other bikes but not really 100% sure yet
still need to rebuild the front master and true the wheels

redid the paint on the tank and it came out much better.
i have R1 rearsets that still need to be mounted before the bike and be riden alot.  i HATE the idea of stock pegs and clubmans
really happy with how she runs.  took her around the neighborhood the other day.  soooo smooth and nice power.

Are you going to add some stripes around the red on the tank? That would really finish it off. Along with the badges.
