Topic: World's quickest SOHC?

Buried in the thread of some other topic there was a question about the fastest SOHC Honda. I know how you all like pics, so I thought I'd share this with you. I obtained the picture when I ordered a Magnuson blower in the late seventies.

Any Aussies know of something faster down under? I would think some of Rex Wolfenden's kit might challenge this? Terry? Mick?

The gauntlet has been thrown down. Anyone know of anything to challenge this? I tried personally, but blew the engine to bits in the attempt.

I don't think Rex builds drag racers or if any of his motors are used in that way, Terry may know more. I do know that 750 Honda's were a popular drag bike here and i actually own a good example. Mine was a 10 second bike, 776 14.5 to 1 venolia pistons, RC cam rods and crank, 31mm smoothbores, barnett clutch, undercut box, cerriani front end and wheelie bars. When i start my new build i willlook for the time sheets that came with the bike as well as a note pad of all the changes and specs of everything done to plug gaps and gearing changes with corresponding times.

As Mick said, Rex's bikes were only for road racing as far as I know.
From what I've been told, he was using A Cranks with Hyvo primaries in his builds.
And I think that we're gunna have to concede defeat on Mr Teson's result.

It's easy to see those are well developed racebikes, nice. From the exterior nothing looks to have changed in awhile.

 The Teson bike has/had. at least double the HP of Rex's bikes..

 And  would not survive the hours , a motor gets used roadracing.
 No camparison.. different uses..

Eric, in the thread I started (how quick is yours) the same bike ran 7.64 with Jim ? riding, Big Jay will know. It seems the bike ended up in the hands of racer Larry Hayes of Alabama who ran quicker than Ron as well.
According to Bo Thorselius, a guy in Sweden had one that ran 7.3s.
When you think about it, the average top fuel bike of today is less than a second quicker despite all the modern techno advances.

Rex was using the 1100 rods for awhile, but he now uses a locally manufactured unit or Carrillo's
Most of us are running Carrillo's these days.
The Honda rods where handling the loads but suffered fatigue failure if they where run for more than a season or two.

Yeah, as has been said, Rex Wolfendon builds magnificent road racing bikes, but i don't recall him being active in the drag racing scene. Like Mick suggests, the CB750 was very popular here in all kinds of racing, and I've got something in the back of my mind about Peter (Porky) Allen (no relation to the other great Aussie singer/songwriter/dancer/shirt lifter) drag racing CB750 based bikes with very impressive results, one of his bikes had a reversed head with a blower but I don't remember whether it was a CB750 or Kawasaki Z1000 based engine. I'll do some research. Cheers, Terry.

We never had a fueler. Had a gas 1055cc that ran 10.33.

Nice to see that Aussie series run a proper period look class with 18" wheels, single opposed piston calipers, fixed discs, etc.

Internally they might be pretty wild but at least they look quite authentic (save for that stupid high level silencer, IMHO)

So who is having the upper hand in that class. these monster CB's , Zees or Suzooks?

The Honda's are at the top of the food chain in this class ie; period 4 as it's called.
The cut off point is December 1972.
The big Suzuki's and Kwakers have to run in period 5, pre1982.

900 and 1100 rods are the same length approx 1.5mm (.060") longer than stock.
900 rods run a 15mm pin and 1100 rods run a 17mm pin.

oh i read here somewhere about CB1100R rods and didnt know if they were different then the DOHC rods.

is there a big difference between the 15 and 17mm piston pins?

also would one let you run a better piston?
