don't want a ring.

Recently lost my gold ring [drunk at the lake!] and purchased a titanium as a replacement.

What would make the ti not get lost at the lake again, was the gold not fit well?

I slammed my hand in a freight elevator once, about ten years ago. My finger was swollen and I tried to cut my wedding ring off with side cutters. It was (is) 14c gold but the side cutters barely made a dent. It is beside me on my desk just now. I haven't worn it since.

Best wishes for your wedding!

The ring does not really matter. What you do with your partner over the coming years matters much more.

I'll probably lose the Ti ring too! The gold one fit right, not sure what happened. Found a great deal on the Ti ring.

Best of luck for your wedding mate, what's your ole lad's name? Is he a member here? ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Here's Snopes debunking the titanium ring myth:

http://www.snopes.com/weddings/horrors/titanium.asp

The only real downside is that they can't be re-sized, but since they're so inexpensive it doesn't cost much to just buy another ring if you need a different size.  I lost about 15 pounds not long after I got married and my original titanium band would slip off my finger, so I just got a new, smaller one.  I still have the first one, I just don't wear it.  My wife lost her first two rings and now she's just wearing a spoon ring that belonged to her grandmother.  What the ring symbolizes is what's important, not the ring itself.

My wife won't let me forget the fact that I lost her dads heavily detailed filigree, 18kt gold, unsizeable, irreplaceable ring she gave me for our tenth anniversary.
I swear it's in the garage somewhere, I took it off so the knurling on my wrenches wouldn't ruin it and it disappeared.

now I wear a stainless steel wedding ring :(
everything I say is pure speculation and
I have no idea what I'm talking about  ._.

I've got Ti as well. When I talked to the jeweler he said they had a ring that went unused and they took it to the back of the shop and had their way with it. He said it's tough, but not as tough as they'd make you think. It's also inert, so it won't grow germs and I don't think it'll cause an arc if you're close to electricity... but don't quote me on that.

Stainless steel, it looks like a bearing race.  It's been through five years of industrial abuse so far, it's a little scratched up but I still have all ten fingers.  :P

None. As a health care worker I needed one less nook for MRSA of VRE to populate.

I'm an engineer so I had to look up:

MRSA - Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus

VRE - vancomycin-resistant enterococci

Also found out you get these from health workers hands!?

"The single most important mode of transmission of both MRSA and VRE in a health care setting is via the hands of health care workers who acquire it from contact with colonized or infected patients,":
http://www.tbrhsc.net/patient_information/patient_safety_indicators/MRSA_&_VRE.asp

Glad you are not wearing your band. Neither am I but I probably only have dirty varsol on mine (plus the other things you mentioned)  :)

Weird and true story:
My mother in law had lost her teeth and started to wear dentures just before my wife and I got married. She gave us her gold crowns that her dentist had given her. We had the gold refined and my wife cast my ring from it to match the one her grandmother had given her. I keep it in one of the top drawers of my dresser, as I could never get used to playing music with it on, and didn't want to lose it.
