Too bad about your cousins '34.
I also feel bad for the guy with the Vette. Own it for 47 years, they call you to come pick it up,  you get there and its a puddle of melted goo!

Hopefully the shop had insurance, as they'd be the one that would have to cover your brother's car (since it was in their possession.)  More importantly, hopefully your brother had it appraised at some point.

But, more to the point:  Got any "before" pics, so that we might look on and mourn?

I don't have any before pics.  I'll check my cousin's facebook later though. maybe he has some on there.

here's a couple after:

the engine was out because it was being rebuilt. but it didn't fare any better.

18 cars in all were pretty much a total loss and then the shop itself.
this car was also in the fire. it was built by Boyd Coddington but i don't know if he still owned it or not.

here's what it looked like before

I have to agree with zzpete. i think the corvette guy has it the worst.  For alot of these guys, these are just expensive toys but for the corvette guy it was probably alot more personal.

This is how insurance works up here, may DIFFER in your area..

IF you did NOT have insurance on it yourself... Then MY shop insurance will NOT INSURE it for you..
 EXCEPT.. if the damage was due to My negligence.. IE, I was welding and the shop went up..

 Some people have a hard time with the concept;
" If you wont insure it, NOBODY wil insure it for you"

Boyd Coddington died 2 years ago.

I'm gonna guess and say he no longer owns (owned?) the car then.

He did have insurance.  what will probably happen is he'll make a claim with his insurance, his insurance will cover it, then his insurance will go after the shop owner's insurance to cover it.  we shall see...
