Great build. I'll agree with everybody else. Very classy. Love the tank badges & color scheme. Doesn't really "need" a pinstripe - looks good already.
You could always try some pinstripe tape that you can get cheap at the autoparts store to see what the color would look like before you actually put the
brush to it.
Are those bicycle handlebar/stem clamps that are holding those rearsets on ? clever.
Again, you guys are great.
The paint was planned to be a silver flake base with a gradated darkening to black for the bottom edges. I had planned to go without striping but maybe my experience with other builds just says there gotta be pinstripes between areas of high contrast. I followed your idea, played around with cheap striping tape. First inclination was to use red or gold or silver but that almost seemed overdone. Finally settled on a light gray that in some places almost disappears into the silver of the base coat. Sanded, taped and put a couple of coats of clear overtop. For me, the paint is done.
with my Jesus taillight:
Really defines the seat form and pad:
Happy how it shapes the knee cutout:
Just makes the tank a bit longer looking:
You are right in that I did use bike stem clamps for the clip ons. Actually found the idea form an earlier thread on this board. I tried several different configurations but never found something comfortable and if I did, they interfered with swingarm clearance. Finally bought a set from Fast From The Past which just bolt on, no big issues. Might be seen as a cop out but Ihave to move forward with this.
Hope to have internal throttle setup pix up in a day or two.
Here's a question to you guys . . . which grips do you like better?:
Super 60's bike grips:
Vespa repop grips:
Metalflake grips to match the paint:
Once again, if one of the mods here can move this to the build section, it might be a better place for this thread.
