CB500 Rejetting with 4-4 exhaust and pods
« on: February 20, 2011, 02:23:28 PM »
I'm about to switch up my OEM airbox with Emgo pods and was curious to know what jetting setup any one else has gone with.  I have the stock 4-4 exhaust with 40s in the slow and 100s in the main jets.  Should I get a new set of jets 25% bigger?

I recently went to pods, and another guy in my shop did the same last year so I borrowed his carbs and they ran real nice so I copied the settings.

He has a 500 bored out to 550 and MAC 4-1

I have a 550, 650 cam, with a 4-2.

Both bikes seem to like these settings.

Main 120
Needles full Up
Float 27mm

Hopefully it's a good start for you.

Why anyone would swap from a far superior air box to pods is beyond me, They are NOT a performance upgrade and will actually decrease performance on a stock bike, especially these older bikes. Just put a K&N replacement filter in your bike and save your self the trouble of trying to tune the thing first, and have a better running bike. And by the way, emgo pods are crap...The pods will never work properly because of the lack of a velocity stack, smoothing out airflow into the carbs. Forum member Tintop has made a much more effective filtering system with stacks and is selling them on this forum..

trial and error! just go with stacks and put small uni filters on them.

I know the Emgos are crap but how bad are they compared to the Uni filters?  I haven't heard the best of things from that either.

I honestly want to switch to the pods so I could put a fifth of whiskey where the air box would be...priorities, you know?
