Need help finding a specific vintage jacket...
« on: September 07, 2010, 08:25:36 AM »
Hey all, I know it might be a long shot but I wanted to see if anyone could help me out in finding a certain style vintage jacket. I want to end up with something along the lines of Goose's jacket from MM1, so it has to be pretty minimalist in form, tighter fitting and tapered, with a slant zipper on the front and not a lot of pockets/epaulets/etc.

It looks to be just a basic leather riding jacket with a few things I am looking for, specifically the stitched padding on the elbows and shoulders you see here (on the right, under the plastic sliders):

The main things Im looking for are the stitched padded sections and the overall shape/design.  Not too concerned about some extra pockets or anyrthing.  i have found a few possibilities but most are reproduction jackets for movie fans and not really suited for riding I dont think, so I am most likely going to have to find one used from the era. If anyone has any leads please let me know!! Thanks.

Check out leatherup.com, not sure about their quality, but the prices are super low and they should have what you're looking for

(also, if you register for their site but don't buy anything they automatically e-mail you a 5% discount code to try and get you to buy something...hint hint)

Good stuff guys, thanks.  That last jacket on ebay is one of the higher-quality movie replicas out there.  Awesome looking jacket but dang expensive for something I wouldnt consider riding gear really.

Found one thats close and would probably work if it wasnt an extra small haha

Thats the same jacket listed on ebay, and still not worth $450 IMO. They make a nice replica but 1) its the Max/MFP jacket, not Goose's, and 2) its not a riding jacket.

Yeah those are a bit out of my price range :)

I will probably end up compromising on either the arm padding or the style, can't seem to find a jacket with both.  They either have stitched padding where it counts and the totally wrong design, or the right style and no padding.  Right now Im just looking for a jacket that doesnt have the huge upper arm sections like most seem to, not a fan of the body builder look really :)

I think in the end Imma just get a jacket that fits me well and has the look I like and go to town making it into what I have in mind.  We shall see haha.

i have a nice jacket from leather up, and i wear a vaypor padded suit underneath.  i'm sure you could find some shoulder pads that looked similar and have a tailor attach them however you wanted!

A leather jacket story.

When I was in Toronto 25 years ago working a "Home Show"  I felt rich one day due to good sales and walked into a custom leather shop down off Young St.
$500.00 later and a few weeks waiting, I had the leather I wanted, the zippers I wanted, slight wind overhang on rear bottom, snaps etc., and it was made to fit me ;D

I still wear it like a second skin 8)   good investment ;)  Wonder what that would cost in todays market and dollars?

I bought one from these guys and it's a quality jacket. (The Perfecto)
http://www.jacksonracing.com.au/09jacketcoll.htm
There's armouring in the shoulders and elbow areas and it's quite heavy but not so noticible when you're riding.
The cost was $500:00AUD.

Im looking for the stitched leather padding, not the shoulder caps. Its pretty obvious those were added later.

At any rate, still looking :) Found out about a local place that does custom work so I might stroll by there and get a quote for what Im looking for.
