Tachometer bracket
« on: June 14, 2010, 11:50:12 AM »
Hi,

Does anyone sell or custom fabricate a 'tachometer only' mounting bracket?

Ideally, one that centers the tachometer once the speedometer is removed.

Also, is there a plug for the hole where the speedometer cable goes into by the wheel?

Thank you.

Vlad

I just removed both gauges (speedo and tach) from the bracket, measured center to center and drilled two holes for the tach bolts.  Mounted right up, it even seemed to lower it a bit.  I'm going to use the original speedo/tach holes to mount two other gauges - oil pressure and oil temp.  The only thing - there's a bit of pressure on the tach cable against the back of the headlight bucket, but it doesn't seem to affect anything.

I'm at work right now, but I can post pics later if need be.

Not sure what bike, but I tried speedo only in the center on my 500, didn't work with the stock headlight ears. Kept breaking cables. Angle didn't look to bad, but after a couple hundred miles the needle would start to bounce, the cable didn't last but 5 min. after that. I did the same as eideteker, just popped another hole in the stock bracket, or get a piece of sheet metal and use the bracket as a template.

Honda XR's(200 I believe) used a rubber plug for the speedo drive on them. Iused them for the tach drive as well. They do need to be shortened approx 3/8 of an inch.

Carpy sells one as a Tach delete bracket. I'd call it a speedo delete bracket myself. I'd pick one up for myself but I just put a fork from a '91 GSXR on and will need to come up with something else.
