Topic: Quick 2 Am Trip to Austin

So, guys I'm 22 years old and I'm the new guy here. I've been riding a bike on the street since about 15 years old. I slowly got my roommate into bikes and he picked one up about a year ago. So me my roomie went to check out a Jazz fest on Sunday at this local bar called Amsterdam. It was pretty cool, some girls and some good music! Can't really beat it. Anyways, were tabbing out and ready to go and my roommate who has never been outside of Dallas on a bike tells me he wants to go on a long trip. I suggest Austin and he's pumped on the idea and says he doesn't have to work tomorrow (Monday) so he wants to leave right then at 2 AM.

I'm pretty strange when it comes to taking trips, a motorcycle trip to Austin for a couple of days sounds alright. But leaving at 2 AM without any planning or checking the weather is very tempting. To me, planning out every gas station and ever mile of a trip before you head out is like watching a movie then right when your done you watch it again. You already know whats going to happen so why would you watch it again?

Anyways, that might sound crazy to you, but to me this 2 AM trip was the perfect example. So we get home I throw some stuff in a bag and were off to fill up. I'm on my 1975 CB550 and he's on a 1979 Suzuki GS425. After getting gas about 2 miles from the house of course my bike wont start. The CB has a terrible charging issue and gets very weak whn its not being ran at hard RPMS. I get a jump and hope for the best and were off to Austin!

Made it there at about 8:00 AM and crashed (slept) at my friend Patrick Biffles house, had some great food and just hung out and met some of his neighbors! Very relaxing time in Austin really got me ready for a tough after Labor Day Week!

Right after leaving Biffle's house my roommates clutch cable snapped. I had to show him how to ride a bike without a clutch which is a pain in the ass especially when you;ve never done it before! He managed and my Honda just kept jogging down the highway all the way back to Dallas!

I drove to Dallas and back Saturday. Yay. 
I saw more police on the highway than I've ever seen before.
Fortunately it appears to take three police cars for each car they had pulled over so they were too busy to watch me.

Sounds like a fun time!    Guessing you took I-35, doubt that is the best route, but def most direct.

The Amsterdam? Sounds familiar. I rode to Dallas to hook up with some friends this time last month. Went to a small upstairs jazz bar somewhere in east Dallas. Go up the stairs and just inside the door to your right is the bar. One aisle kinda place. Directly across from the bar by the door was the band. White clean cut guy on key boards, older black singer, black drummer and horn player. You weren't there on Fri 8/6 by any chance?

Nah, thats not the place. Was the staircase outside? The place your thinking of might be the balcony club. Funny story though, I was around Amsterdam having dinner and set out on their front porch after dinner to wait out the rian and a guy on a 72 CB750 pulled up.

Unfortunately I was riding the GSXR but it was a pretty cool little scoot he had.

My usual riding buddy (Sportster guy, don't judge) and I were just talking about a weekend trip to ATX next weekend if anybody wants to cruise down. Should be a good time
