Phoenix AZ anyone?
« on: August 21, 2010, 08:35:29 PM »
I know this is short notice but what the heck. I am on a RV trip from Boston to San Diego for a wedding. Several route changes and a need to see White Sands natl park has brought me to Las Cruces, NM. Now that we are on the I 10 it looks like we'll be passing through Phoenix on Monday/Tuesday and we'll have some time to stop and ride. I am traveling with my father, and he brought his bike with him. I will need to rent. I would really appreciate any info on some good twisty day trips near Phoenix. Also any info on renting anything besides a Harley would be a big help. Thanks, Rob  P.S. I'll ride a Harley if I have to!  :D

I've rented a few times from these guys and they've always treated me right:

And under the "Rides & Tours" link they've got most of the good local rides listed.  Wish I was free to show you around, but super busy with work the next few days.

p.s.  We had some crazy rainstorms last night and supposed to be iffy the next few days.  Make sure to bring some raingear.

Thanks for the reply! I did check them out last night before I posted this, but it helps to know they have a good reputation. I think I'll give them a call. I'm in Benson AZ right now, and you're right about the weather! I gotta admit, I've been to Phoenix several times before and I wasn't expecting rain! Oh well we'll make the best of it. BTW, do you ride an aircooled Honda in that 100+ heat? just curious.... Thanks again for your prompt response, I'll let you know how we make out.

Unfortunately I haven't been riding much this summer, but when I do I'll typically get up real early and head up north where it's a little cooler.  Then it's just a matter of surviving the last hour or so back into the valley to my house and into the pool.  The summers here do suck, but then the other 8 or 9 months of the year are just heaven!

Go up through Congress to Prescott! It is freaking awesome. Yarnell Hill is something else! Then the final push toward Prescott is all 30mph sweepers. I always shot for "double + 10" over the recommended speeds, which makes this ride something to remember! Coming back down off of Yarnell hill is where I set my current top speed of 165! Have fun!!!

Yarnell Hill up through the White Spars to Prescott is probably my second favorite ride in the whole state.  Unfortunately a few serious accidents over the last year or so has brought out the cops in full force.  If you plan on riding up there on the weekends you best be hitting the fun stuff before 6am or risk spending the night in jail.

And my favorite ride in the state????...................

Old Devil's Highway 666 (now called US191) from Clifton up north to Alpine.  Approximately 90 miles of some of the best twisties in the country.  Pure Heaven!

I heard of 666 but never got the chance to ride it... I miss riding in AZ, there are some good ones. I like the ride up to Payson a lot too!

The road just west of Flagstaff on i-40 that runs to Ashfork nd down towards Wikenburg is super twisty. Might  be one of the ones you are talkig about.
