How can I convince her to not sell this bike and give it to me?
« on: September 08, 2010, 05:26:49 PM »
My girlfriend has a bike she bought at auction.  It is a beautiful 76' 550 four in which I replaced the engine.  It has 6000 miles on the frame and 11k on the motor.  It has the original exhaust in great shape and it now has new tires.

It runs great.
I gave her a 400F and I fully rebuilt that one.  She never rides any of her bikes.  She did ride her Ducati the other day for a few minutes.

I feel that since i built the bikes I should have dibs on it.  It hasn't cost her a thing but tires and the original $300.

What can I do to get it from her?
Any ideas beside stealing and divorce?

Okay, let me get this straight. You have a girlfriend that not only rides(...okay, occasionally) but also buys bikes. And you're having a problem?!?! Count your blessings there ch and go with the flow otherwise I'm going to steal her and all the bikes that she lays claim to. ;D ;D ;D

Sounds like she's just using you to build bikes for her so she can sell them.

If your comment about divorce really means you are married you should ignore this comment and seek marriage counseling. Otherwise, you seem not to be in a love relationship but a business arrangement. If the latter, it's not all that hard to find new partners.

offer her initial investment of $300 + the cost of the tires.  Failing that, pout for a week or so and get back with us for more drastic measures!

Guilt trip, man!

Tell her the work you put into those bikes was your gift to her, and for her to then turn around and sell them to somebody else for a profit is no different than her selling a birthday or Christmas present that you worked hard for and gave to her.

Okay I'd go with this too but you aren't that far away from me so I'm still goin' with accept it...though she should split the profit with you if it sells. Otherwise up comin' up there to settle it all. Don't make me bring the Corona girls...they love a good tussle. Ahhh...love them tussles. Going to Rice-A-Rama on Sunday?

I am a cheap whore and I like being used.  (by her)

I told her yesterday that I was going to buy it.  Then she used woman logic. ::)   She asked why I have money for a bike but not a new picture window for the house.  I panicked when she said that and ran out of the room and went for a ride on one of my other bikes until is was dark outside. ;D ;D

Bet that Duc would buy a nice picture window .  ;) $300 and a set of tires won't . If your relationship's common law aren't the bikes marital property ? I think you just gotta go in there and take what you want . ;D

You own a house together, but you would have to buy the bike from her rather than her just keeping it for you both to use? You two have an unusual financial arrangement.

What state do you live in?  You think that you're not married.  The law may say so otherwise.  Let see now, you own a house, together, on paper?  Are there congugal sleeping arrangements?  If the answer is yes.  You should check the local laws.

That may be marital property.

If it is, sounds like you need to get another partner.  Unfortunately, it is a bad time to sell a house.

Good luck on hanging on to the bikes.

Since you know how to fix the bikes you should know how to unfix it.
Make it run really crappy and tell her it needs a lot of work possibly a new motor.
Then being the Knight in shining armor you are offer to take it off her hands.
In the future any bikes you fix for here you get first dibs at the amount actually spent.

Get a copy of  Streetcar Named Desire. Watch it alone, of course, and study the Brando role. Pay particular  attention to the monologue about  Napoleonic code.  Practice that up a bit, and the at the right time when he discussion about the bike comes up again.....

Lets see, which would be easier to come up with $500.00 to keep bike around $2500.00 for a new window(guessing)?

tell her if $500 will buy that stupid window take, the money you give her for the bike and buy it, i'm guessin it will take about 5 times that even if you install it yourself.
