« on: September 10, 2010, 05:48:34 PM »
Hey guys i was just looking at a thread with a gas cap with a gauge in it.  My question is if you are using your oem tank or any tank for that matter, how do you tell the level of gas in you tank?

I set my trip meter at every fill up. At 120 miles I start thinking about filling up!

I'm with Pete, once you know how many miles you can get before switching to reserve you're all set.

that method is ok, but kinda worrysome when you're on long rides with mountains and changing altitudes.

Or take a nice long ride and figure it out BEFORE you go into a mountain area with no gas stations around.

...and if you really run out of gas, try leaning the bike WAY OVER to the petcock side so every drop can make its way over there where it might save you some time pushing the bike.  (obviously do this while the bike is stopped and you have a very solid footing)

I've been tempted to carry  an extra gallon can with me, just in case there's no station in the reserves range!

Just pick a mountain pass with only left hand turns you'll get better mileage  ;) ;D
