1983 Triumph with side car, should I trade for CB550
« on: September 30, 2010, 09:30:19 AM »
Ok, I was selling one of my bikes, too many for one guy to ride. So someone contacts me offering to possibly trade. His bike a 1983 Triumph with side car. I really don't want it. Just trying to see if I can sell his bike easier. Its on CL, here's the ad. http://newlondon.craigslist.org/mcy/1966781474.html

What do ya think?

Yea, I know its kind of a rediculous question but I have no idea what a 1983 Triumph is worth compared to what I have. Its like the "what oil do I use" thread. I'm just trying to gauge whether or not the other bike has any value to the general riding public. Should I bother negotiating or just run away?

geez, I'd pass.

I mean, a vintage Triumph is a VERY niche bike.  And a SIDECAR is even MORE of a niche.

Seems like there'd be a grand total of four guys that you'd be trying to market to.  And, if they don't happen to want it today....

Well, that's my two cents, anyway.

I would, just because sidecars are awesome :)  True there are four guys looking for one in the country right now, but you could probably throw it on eBay and one of the four would buy it.

If not, at least you can get groceries on it.

All in this summer, I bought a '78 CB550K with Velorex sidecar (same as this guy) and then sold it for an '89 Goldwing with California sidecar.  I dont' really know your 550, but I'd go for the trade.  At minimum, you should get $1000 out of a good hack in no time flat.

There is a market.
