Front Brake upgrade
« on: September 08, 2010, 06:59:29 PM »
I'm currently rebuilding my front brake system and need an a second opinion. My piston in the calipur is useable however Carpy sells a stainless steel piston for $99.99. This would be an inprovement for any future times I have to get into the brakes. I'm also considering one of his drilled rotors even though I have several here that will work fine. I'm doing away with the 2 brake lines and going with one line from the MC to calipur. TAS motorsports is hooking me up there. My question is would the new piston and rotor make a huge difference in my brake system.

From what I have read here... It will help a little. I assume you are getting a steel braided brake line? That will help. There is a forum member who makes phenolic brake pistons... Supposed to be much lighter than the metal ones, which reduces unsprung weight(a little), and I think itd be cheaper than Carpys's... I used a master cylinder off a modern CBR1000RR with a SS line, and that made a big difference! I thought it was too stiff at first, but either it got softer, or I got used to it, cause I dig it now! That is all I got on the subject.

Are you using that master with a single or dual disk setup?

Try the piston Kevin400F sells.  I think it costs about $35 and it works great.  I have one in my CB550F.
