Never heard of DFL and Cermet. I assume that's the skirt coating you recommend. I will check it out.

Yeah, sorry. Dry Film Lubricant. Cermet is a ceramic-based reflective costing for the dome. Can even go one more, and coat the underside of the Pistons with an oil-shedding coating to disperse heat. Keeps the oil cooler as it does not allow it to cling to the piston and collect heat.

Place I use charges $15/piston per coating. But for forged aluminum pistons, it's well worth controlling their expansion and heat gains.

FYI -- at $15 per piston, Cal's vendor is by far the cheapest I've found.  Or is that $30 per piston for the two different coatings per piston?  If $15 for both, Cal, will your vendor deal with mail in/out parts??

Don - you can just mail yours to me, I'll hand carry them down. I've got a complete engines, 2 sets of pistons, an extra set of cylinders, head and valve cover down there. So, I'm making many trips regularly.

Awaiting delivery of another exhaust too for ceramic so I can take 2 down.... Who budgeted gas mileage in their Rebuild? Not me!

I am happy to report that with the help of this forum and some very generous members (you know who you are!) TAO is back on the road. I have been working on her covertly from my garage over the past few months and have about 25 miles on the rebuild. I put the CR29 carbs on my K4 so the roundtop carbs are installed with some K&N pods and oddly enough it runs better than ever. I have some tuning to do but its pretty close now. This bike is FUN to ride but I still am planning on selling it. If anybody is interested hit me up. Thanks to everyone that convinced me to rebuild her. It was the right decision for sure.
