Thinking about buying a Hyundai Tucson
« on: September 11, 2010, 07:46:33 PM »
Anyone have one or sell them?  I've read tons and we checked out one today (along with several competitors like the CRV, Forester, etc) and really liked it but was hoping to find some real-world feedback from folks I trust.  We'll be trading in our '08 Accord and are hoping to keep the additional cost reasonably low.  Turns out that the trunk which looked HUGE compared to the Infinity G35 she used to drive doesn't really work with the Stroller, diaper bag, and groceries like we thought it would...

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks
James

I rented a Hyundai Santa Fe last winter for a ski trip to the mountains, the Tucson is the "little brother" if I'm not mistaken.

The Santa Fe was a nice vehicle, ran great had no problems, but if I were in the market for a SUV, I highly doubt I would buy one.
As having owned 3 4Runners, I don't think the Hyundai build quality is quite as high as Toyota, but neither is the price.

That's really all I have to offer, hope that helps at least a little.

Yeh, we joked about getting the 4-runner.  It's a great vehicle but I have an '08 Tacoma for the "real" utility.  The 4-runner would be a bit redundant but very nice.  Key is fuel efficiency since we are getting rid of the Accord which is our main commute vehicle (unless we drive separately and I'm on a bike).  Since there is currently talk of us looking for a move to lower PA near Gettysburg we'll prefer to have 4wd in both vehicles so we're not stuck commuting in the truck for a few weeks like this past winter.  Went though lots of gas...

I don't know if you're going to be much happier with the trunk space in the Tucson.

[/quote] I have a'06 Tacoma Prerunner, great truck! The 4Runner was my wife's, and with a 60 mile daily commute, we decided to trade it for an Altima [35+ MPG!]
Keep looking, you'll find the right vehicle.

My neighbour had one, and I drove it a couple of times. Besides that it's not as well build as the german cars i'm used to there's not much wrong with it. I was surprised how good the car felt to drive.
The biggest problem for me is the way it looks. I think it's probably the least attractive car ever, but thats personal.

He's now got a new Hyundai last week that looks a lot better, also an SUV. Check that out too.

Well, we took it out for a test drive and it really wasn't near as polished as the others.  Also, Gordon was right.  The room just wasn't that great in the back.  Took a Forester out for a spin and ended up buying the CRV.  Wife is going to pick it up tomorrow.  It'll make traveling with the kiddo so much easier.

Good choice, can't beat Honda quality.

Did you get the EX-L w/4WD?

Yep, with Navi (just cause they didn't have the one without it in the color we wanted).  Wife was on the fence about the 4wd but I think it's really handy to have just in case.  I had a 2000 CRV and loved it.

Good choice on the CRV. My wife and I both have one, mine's a 2000, hers is  2002. We have a combined 330,000 between us, very reliable.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

Nice. You'll like the Navi on trips. What color?

I loved my 2000.  That thing did things it was never intended to do.  Only sold it because I really needed a truck.

We went with the Glacier Blue Metallic.  We really like it and it'll hide some of the dirt from our gravel access road and driveway.
