As for the harness in your hand in the first pic, it follows that cable/black wire loom that is routed just in front of the front sprocket/chain and heads toward the stator if I'm not mistaken.  When you install the front sprocket cover you will have two wire looms passing the cutout "window" into the depths of the case; the one that is in place already and the one in your hand.  Hope this is clear?

Why don't the depictions in the Honda CB750 Shop manual supplement chapter 22 pgs. 243 and 244 help?

« Reply #5 on: September 08, 2010, 01:14:10 AM »
my manual is crap and doesnt show me where this goes.

just need to know where the grounding strap from the starter solenoid is supposed to go.

anybody got a pic of theirs?

No picture here. But there's no grounding strap on the solenoid. There should be one big fat wire like that on each stud terminal. One goes to the "+" terminal on your battery, the other goes to the starter motor. Grounding the battery end would be no big deal (but your starter and maybe the entire bike electrical system wouldn't work) but grounding the starter motor end would be a really bad idea. Pressing the starter button the first time afterward would be exciting and probably quite expensive.

The wire in the last pic. is the main frame ground, does NOT go to the solenoid, but straight to the battery - pole.  The solenoid ONLY gets the fat + wire from the battery + pole and the fat starter wire... hope you didn't ground that ring and press the starter ( cringe ) !.... The grounging ring goes behind that long engine mount bolt just above the front sprocket ( @ 1 o'clock ).

If your sure it's a carb problem; it's ignition,

Bodi is correct that is not a ground wire it goes to your starter I think HOT wires should be red but my name is not Honda. +1 TT

Spanner1 you may be correct I can not see where the other end goes but looking at the size of that ring you are probably correct

Moto follow that big fat wire and tell us where it goes on the other end ( BATT or start SOL)

The size of the ring says it's probably the main ground, and it would go to one of the engine mounting bolts. The other end is probably the battery "-" terminal.

That cable does look like the battery ground cable. If it is, it connects on the right rear engine mount beneath the rear brake light switch.

aight.  im goin out there now to look.

the wire in my hand in the pic wasnt even on the bike, i found it in the box of crap the PO gave me, and assumed it was for the solenoid.

my battery is grounded to a black wire coming from the left side cover....  OOPS

ill switch em

pics would really help guys, jus to make sure im in the right spot.  my clymer manual is crap. doesnt show me any of this stuff.

yup. they were backward.

i put the solenoid wire on the solenoid instead of the battery... probably a good thing.

then hooked the battery up to the grounding strap. and the engine mount.

hooked it up.  turned the key. hit the start button and it fired right up.

thanks guys.

just fyi.. i when i had it the other way around the starter motor would actually turn over a little bit, if i grounded it.  no big explosions everything still seems to work.... guess i got lucky.

so ive got her running.  exhaust is on, but i dont have any air filters on there.

....and i still have the stock jets in it.

it will start and idle no problem. clutch feels ok.  but as soon as i let it out and start to move forward a little bit the bike will just die.  starts right back up everytime.... etc...

i have a feeling my accelerator pump aint workin so hot.  and im wondering if the bike running really lean ( because of no filters and stock jetting) would make it die like that?

any help?  ill have filters soon. and ill drill some jets out tomorrow to the rights size.

just seems weird it would die like this but idle and throttle ok.

Without the filters, it is running too lean. I would figure out what you are going to do as far as filtration, and tune from there. The accelerator pump doesnt kick in until higher in the rpm range than you are probably at. Pull the choke and see if that helps get you rolling.

And my bike's ground and solenoid leads were backward for a while, just fixed it Sunday. Had no major meltdowns... Luckily!
