Gauge Compatibility
« on: September 13, 2010, 01:40:35 PM »
I tried doing a search without any hits, but really I'm just looking for positive confirmation on this anyways.

I'm swapping a 650 cam into my 500, but don't like the look of 650 gauges, nor do I wish to spend the money on electronic aftermarket units. Our FAQ lists 650s and 750s as having the same Tach ratio at 4:1, and all CBs sharing a common speedo ratio. Does this mean I can now simply hookup a full set of 750 gauges onto my 500 and they will run at the correct ratios?

Thanks!

Evan

Probably not. I think 500cc and under use 7:1 tach ratio. It may be under 500cc so you're good, but I don't know for sure. I've never had this question definitively answered, and I wonder about the 550... would it be 4:1 whilst the almost-identical 500 uses 7:1?

The FAQ says 500 and 550s are both 20:3 ratio.

I've swapped a 650 cam and tachometer drive gear into my 500, so I'm now running the same tachometer ratio as a 650 and presumably a 750 too, if the FAQ is correct. I'm just looking for some solid confirmation that 650 and 750 tachs are actually compatible with each other.
