Head Gasket Leakage CB650
« on: September 10, 2010, 10:23:13 AM »
Okay,

So I have a 1982 CB650 that I've just rebuilt the top end on.  I've put it back together 4 times and each time I find something else wrong.  The most recent being that the headgasket is leaking oil profusely.  It is a brand new headgasket and is leaking almost all the way around the engine.  A few things to know:  The head was shaved and the cylinders honed.  The cylinders were still in stock speck so I didn't put in new pistons but did replace the brings without going up a size.  The head was honed by 4/1000th.  I'm trying to create a list of all the things that could cause this and so far I've come up with

1. bad gasket
2. Head bolts stretched too far
3. Shaving by 4/1000th created more compression than the gasket can hold - hence bad gasket
4. I missed a step in putting the head back together

Anything else I may be missing to add to the "prove it before I lose it" list.

Also, does anyone know where I can find new head bolts for the 650's?  Honda doesn't stock them, so short of getting them fabbed I've looked everywhere.

Also, if any of you are in PDX and want to take a look at it with me let me know.  I'll serve up a cold brew and shoot the #$%*.

Thanks!

Anyone have any recommendations on how to go about trouble shooting this one?  Other than rebuilding the top end again replacing all gaskets and bolts I'm not sure what my options are..

HELP!!!!
