Already posted but never introduced myself. I worked in the cycle industry for 14 years as a Japanese bike mechanic and service manager, worked at Devon Honda, Riff's Cycle Center and Montgomeryville Cycle Center. Got out of bikes to pursue photography, had a photo lab/studio that went under due to the onslaught of digital and wound up working at Home Depot. After my wife passed several years back I took my children on a retreat in Chincoteague, while there I was using the internet, went on Ebay and wound up buying a non-running 1971 Honda CB450 dohc. Since then I have restored several 450's, four CB400 fours(I actually rode one from the Philly area to New Hampshire non-stop in my younger days), a couple GL500I's(my present daily rider) and 5 or 6 CB750's(coolest bike ever made). Presently have three CB400 4 restorations in progress and enough parts to make at least 4 CB450 twins. I think I may can the latter project and sell my entire inventory of CB450 parts( 6 motors, 5 frames, boxes of parts-probably enought stuff to make 4 bikes without having to buy another part! If anyone has interest in a couple years of projects, let me know.
My first post was about a black 1973 CB750 K3 that I just got. Owner swore the black color was original as the bike was a one family ownership. Looks to me as though the color is original but all the responses from here sort of negate that. Underside of the tank and back of the side covers are black, usually on repaints the original Honda color shows in those locations. Anyhow, it is in immaculate condition and after I installed new tapered head bearings and tuned it it runs and handles beautifully. Gotta be the best bike ever made. In the words of The Dead, keep on truckin'.
Great site and helpful, Larry
